My Paris Find - The Start of My Love Affair with Lipault ... & What I Wore

It all started on our FIRST day in Paris!! Ms. E and I were strolling around our neighbourhood in the Marais to familiarize ourselves with the area. When we stumbled across the newly opened Lipault boutique... looked innocent enough from the outside.

But one step inside and your eyes dance from piece to piece in a symphony of colours.  And as much as the friendly sales man encouraged me to touch the luggage, open it, experience it ... I tried hard to resist - but one innocent touch and I knew as my fingers delicately ran over the exterior I had to learn more... and I knew it was going to be trouble!!!

Planes, Trains and Automobiles ... May be the answer

"Stepping out of your everyday life is a gift to your soul. It allows you to reconnect with self, clears the mind and provides the opportunity to dream. " - Celia M.

I'll be giving myself this gift so things may be a little quiet around here. But if you follow High Heeled Life on Instagram you'll get a glimpse of where planes, trains and automobiles are taking me.

Sometimes You have to travel...

... to realize you already are where you are suppose to be.

As many of you know from reading earlier posts, I recently went away to South America to escape the cold and to fill the feeling of "must visit Argentina" that has been nagging at me since the first year post-accident. I had no idea why I felt this gravitational pull to South America or what I would discover. And despite Mr.G’s concern about the flight time, off we went to the unknown.

Our first stop was Peru – not part of the original plan, but when dear friends informed us that they would be there visiting family for the month of December and would love for us to join them, we could not resist. Our time in Peru was short, as the gravitational pull was Argentina, but our time with them and their Peruvian relatives will be one that we will treasure for the rest of our lives. (more on Peru in future posts).

Peruvian Family Afternoon

Our friend's family invited us to spend a traditional family afternoon. We were delighted to attend!! The food was amazing and plentiful! There were relatives from all over the world; Italy, Canada, USA. Between English, Italian, Spanish and some Portuguese everyone was able communicate.

Trying some local delights!

Everyone catching up....

Its amazing to see how children interact, language is no barrier...

In Peru , most families have a "Nana" who helps with the household chores, raising children and companion. This Nana has been with bestie's family for more than 25 years. She will remain with the family for the rest of her life.

Peruvians really enjoy life and love to celebrate! Musicians are often hired to play music during special celebrations. The music fills the house and before you know it everyone is singing along or dancing.

Just like North American's, Peruvians love their furbabies. This is bestie's mother's little furbaby Chiquita. Dolce would have had a great time playing with her.

The gardens are starting to go into bloom.. The roses were brilliant!!

Imagine having an olive tree in your backyard!!!

The day ended with another beautiful Peruvian sunset!!

Bermuda - Girl's week-end ... I did it !!!!!

Mr. G. and I tried travelling in 2008, which resulted in a total disaster – I had crying spells that would pop out of nowhere, usually not in the privacy of our hotel room. My fear of not knowing how I will feel from day to day (sometimes moment to moment) with both pain and mood; anticipation of being on a plane with noisy people; having to have someone travel with me to manage luggage and keep me calm so as not to have an outburst, has resulted in lack of interest in travelling – something that I so enjoyed prior to my detour.

This year I was determined to travel, with Mr. G’s help and support I managed 2 getaways. We tried the beach route and the city route (Dominican and Paris). Although both trips had their challenges, with Mr. G (he has learned to pick up on signs that I’m reaching my limits- before I do, and we have a situation) keeping a close eye on my energy level and surroundings we got thorough both trips with little scaring.

So when a good friend suggested we go away for a girl’s week-end, I was both grateful to be asked and terrified. After much discussion with Mr. G – it was agreed I would give it a try. Mr. G felt confident this friend would be able to handle a situation if one should arise. This would be my first trip away without Mr. G. Since we were only going for the week-end, we decided it would be best to just relax and limit any sightseeing to close to the hotel. My friend L is more of a sun and food connoisseur than shopping so this was just fine with her.
There were only a couple of situations – one right after we arrived at the hotel – with some confusion about a chair with a waiter, so we could enjoy afternoon tea by the windows. My friend L was great to travel with – since she is a foodie, reminders to eat were always received positively – the drinking of water, well (but, I was very grateful that she stayed on top of the water intake). L’s attention to my energy level was amazing and at the end of each day – she did not mind that it was early nights to the room. L’s two daily showers – where great prompts for me. She even sat through a few hours of Keeping up with the Kardashian’s .. :) Thank you my friend … for giving me the opportunity to travel without Mr. G. I’m sure he was happy for the break as well.

We were a little disappointed with the Afternoon Tea, it is listed as a top 10 - but it fell short of our expectations (definitely no comparison to The Empress -another Fairmont hotel). The bread was some what on the stale side and the sandwhiches were too big (actually more like mini bun sandwhiches). The banana sorbet at the end of tea, was the best part.

we had a great harbour view from our patio and sat out there every morning to enjoy our breakfast. Each morning and some evenings we were visited by a Yellow belly bird.

The beach was a quick ferry ride to the Fairmont Southampton location. Where we were introduced to the most amazing Pina Colada ice-cream float. Literally Bermuda coconut rum with vanilla ice-cream - heavenly!!!

hmmm. Nice Garden ...
Something told me these stairs went nowhere
so L- went exploring ... Nowhere... :)
One afternoon - when the mood was perahps a little less than postive about the future. I looked up to see this... are my Angels sending me a message?

Miles Market - discovered last day of trip :( ... It is very similiar to a Whole Foods or Pusateri's. It is less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel - and offers a great selection of FRESH DAILY prepared foods (and much more budget friendly than eating hotel food), that you can take back to your hotel room or enjoy by the pool.

Sunset at Fairmont Princess Hamilton,
pool area.
Although there were many people at the resort; couples, family vacationers, even a wedding, and some local residents the resort was very peaceful and realxing. We meant many wonderful women - who were there for girl's week-end  and mother-daughter getaways. If you are looking for a quick getaway - 2 hours from Toronto and from speaking with some Amercian visitors - the same from most USA locations - Bermuda is your place!!!
What is your favourite or dream - Girl's or Mother-Daughter week-end getaway Destination?

Dolce's PawsPost - Garden Walk

I waited and waited for Mommy to take me on our evening garden walk. Did she forget? It was Thursday evening and I had a post to paw for Friday! What would I post if we didn't go for our walk? I paced at the garden door, in hopes of reminding her. Where was she? Finally I decided to go see what was taking her so longgggg!

As I ran up the stairs I could could hear Daddy saying "don't forget the sun block," I went around the corner so fast - that I slid into Mommy's clostet - stopped only by the purple box on the floor. What was this? Mommy looked down at me, "I'm going to miss you!" - miss me? I am right here! Lets go for our walk I barked softly and wagged my tail ... "can you take him for his walk, I still have so much to pack" she said to Daddy. "Oh, and can you take the camera and take some pics of the gardens and Dolce - as he explores on his walk".

Walks with Daddy are always lots of fun... he lets me run freely and takes me past the stream and to the other side of the forest. We had so much fun playing. When we came back in - Mommy was still upstairs. "did you get some good pics of Dolce's walk for his post?" Opps, we had so much fun playing we forgot to take pictures. "No worries, I don't think I will have time to post, I'm tired and I just finished packing". "Packing"  where are we going?

When my Mommy and Daddy went downstairs to get something I started to look around for my DoggiePack, sniff, snifft, sniff. Then I heard Daddy saying to Mommy "don't worry - we will be fine, you are only going for the week-end, you need a break." Whatttt? I'm not going? I had to get in this box, I had to go too! I love going on vacation!!!

"Check out your suitcase...laughing ..." Daddy called to Mommy. Ahhh busted ... I knew I should have hid under her clothes.

Friday morning, we woke up really early! I thought I'll just jump into my chair at the door and give Mommy my best "puppy doggie eyes" this always gets me extra treats - so she will have to take me too!

All I got was a walk ... and a short one!!

Here are a couple of pics, from this morning's very, very, very, very  short walk;

I guess Mommy really is going without me ... Daddy says its too hot in Bermuda for me. Maybe I will have some doggie play dates.

This is my Sister- Stella, she is not as small as me, but she is lots of fun to play with! She is a Yellow-English Lab.
This Bella, she is a Maltipoo - she likes to chase me all the time. We have lots of fun.

This is Daisy - she is a Papichon - she use to hide from me and jump on the couch so I couldn't catch her. But, now that I'm a big Doggie, I can keep up with her.

Oh, in her busy Friday morning, Mommy forgot to post my PawsPost so you get to hear from me 2 times this week. When, Mommy gets back she promised to take me for an extra long garden walk. See you Friday!!!
