A Book, Cup of Tea & some Fashion ...

Being in the city has many perks ... like getting out of the staple of yoga pants and khakis of country life and slipping on some heels and real pants!
(L) Mr. G. (Centre) Celia M. (R) - Peter Rattan
Mr. G. and I recently had the pleasure of attending a book launch for Caron Leid, hosted by our dear friend Peter Rattan - Founder & Creative Director of räh - rattan art house .
For my tea loving readers ... I'm going to steep a cup of tea using tea that was in the gratitude bags given out at the launch along with some others wonderful goodies.

I have shared this tea cup before ... but thought it was perfect for today's tea. It is Spice of Life by Judith Glover and the theme always brightens my day. It's also a generous size cup so perfect for enjoying this delicious tea.

The tea is called Margaret's Hope - Darjeeling tea... a delicate tending astringent cup with the distinctive "Muscatel' character with hints of currant an almost wine like taste. - black tea. (as per the tag) -

I would have to agree...it is divine!

Now that we have our tea let's go to the party...

This is Caron's first book and it chronicles her journey into the world of Alzheimer's with her mother. Caron takes you through first learning of her mother's disease; navigating the care system; dealing with personal care workers; holding onto to her sanity and finally coming to acceptance of the path she was now on. Through each page you can feel the love, care and respect Caron has for her mother.
You will also find a great list of resources of Alzheimer's societies  around the world and detailed accounts of the treatments her mother faced.

A most touching story that I recommend anyone who has a loved one facing Alzheimer's read. This is also a great gift for anyone who has a friend or family member facing Alzheimer's.

To learn more about Caron or to order her book I invite you to visit her website Caron Leid . Her book is also available through Barnes & Noble - in both hard and soft cover.

The event was held in the Distillery District and it was well attended ...

It was an amazing evening!!! ... and the cupcakes ...lets just say I wish I had one to accompany my tea this afternoon!! Tres YUMMY!!

Now for my fashionista readers ... This is what I wore...

White Burberry pant (Holt's a few seasons ago); black silk blouse from Femme de Carrier - (Vaughan Mills almost 6 years ago) and Gucci heels (Holt's gift from the furbabies at Christmas couple years back )!! ... I love the pocket detail and button on the Burberry pant..

These heels are more comfy than they appear!!!

and perfect for summer fun...

Caron Leid (L) in a gorgeous white pant suit ...and Caroline (R) MC for the evening ... I must find out where her dress is from ... she looked tres chic and I love how she pair the over the knee boot with her dress ...

Drive along the countryside ~ Encounter with Ms. Turtle

You will want to click on photos to view larger image...

When we set out on our countryside drives we never know what adventure we will encounter
or what mother nature will surprise us with....

On this particular drive - Mr. G. spotted a large turtle at the side of the road.

As we approached to get a better look a few photos ... I thought the turtle was stuck...

Then its leg lifted ... and I was thinking YES! it's free ...

Then just as quickly the leg went down again ...

Then the leg went up again ....

This time it did not go back down as quickly ... and we discovered what was happening...

This turtle wasn't stuck .... she was laying eggs!!!!

We don't know how long before we stopped she had been laying eggs ... during the 20 minutes or so we were there we must have counted a dozen and half eggs ...

All of a sudden ... she lifted up both back legs...

And without missing a beat ... she began to use her back legs to re-collect the dirt she had dug out earlier and began to cover her eggs... we left at this time .

We went back later in the day .... and the area (hole) was completely cover and the average person would be no wiser to what miracle in nature had occurred at this spot only a few hours earlier.

This was definitely not something one wakes up or thinks about "Hmmm... I hope I will get to see a snapping turtle lay her eggs" ... but it is an experience I will remember for the rest of my life.
Nature is amazing!!!

What adventures in nature have you stumbled across?

with blessings and gratitude,

Celia M. - HHL Opens the Toronto Market ...

This week is  Canadian National Blood Donor Week, for those who have long time readers of HHL you already know that it was because of the generousity of blood donors that I am here today! - it took over 54 units of blood to save me. It was a real honour to help TMX Group launch Canadian National Blood Donor Week as new members of the Partners For Life program!!!

It was a great turn out! Thank you to all the organizations who were in attendance and support Canadian Blood Services through Partners For Life program!

Approximately every minute of every day, someone in Canada needs blood. In fact, according to a recent poll, 52 per cent of Canadians say they, or a family member, have needed blood or blood products for surgery or for medical treatment.

Note : (One unit of blood is the equivalent to one donation)

Many blood donors have told us that a family member inspired them to start donating.  Share who inspired you to give with your extended Canadian family, use #families4blood when you do.

Are there organizations like Canadian Blood Services where you live?

I encourage everyone no matter where you live in the world - to please donate blood!

With Blessings and Gratitude,
