Light Cafe on Baldwin

Whether you are looking to satisfy your appetite, sweet tooth or looking for a hot/cold beverage Light Cafe is serving up a great selection of gourmet cafĂ© food and drinks with a contemporary twist. Super friendly and welcoming staff. A great up beat vibe, lots of natural light filters in from the floor to ceiling window ... and the live plant wall really is a wonderful touch of green - it's like being outside indoors.

The Lobster Bisque is scrumptious!!

I fell in love with this yummy treat! The strawberry mille feuille is a delectable melody of light flaky pastry, cream, fresh strawberries, a petite scoop of strawberry ice cream, and an infusion of strawberry puree. It really is a party for the senses!!

Feeling a little parched or looking for a place to enjoy a hot or cold beverage? Light Cafe has you covered with their extensive offering: espresso bar, slow drip hand brew coffee, infused loose leaf tea, au laits, and refreshing alternatives.
On a recent visit ... I took a little break from my writing day with leisure reading and a cup of Earl Grey Rose Au Lait!! ( lovelies if you enjoy an Au Lait, you must try this one, you will thank me!)

Light Cafe is located at : 23 Baldwin Street
Easily accessible via the St. Patrick TTC Station or the 505 Dundas street car McCaul stop.

Exploring the City via TTC - a year in review

When I made the decision to start spending more time in the city at the end of 2014, I also promised myself that I would embrace "true" city living. This meant using the car less and actually giving public transit a chance. Well it's been an interesting adventure...

My first TTC adventure took place a little over a year ago,  in  the middle of a snow storm in Toronto, just before Christmas in 2014. I was a little nervous, a little scared with a whole lot of anxiety. But, as luck would have it - everyone I encountered was very pleasant and happy to direct me in the right direction from which train, to which stop. So with tokens in hand I headed to the Bay/Bloor area.

When I ventured out from below ground ... this is what I encountered ....BRRRRR temperatures ... sloshing side walks

let's just say it didn't take long for me to discover that I could actually maneuver my way underground to various shops and what a discovery of shops below street level... Who knew?

While most of my TTC outings in 2015 were getting comfortable using the Bloor line - it didn't take long for me to start experiencing with the Yonge line, University line, street cars and I even take the 2-3 minute bus ride to get to my local subway station. For the most part the subway often gets me closer to where I'm going than driving and parking would. Once you learn the below street level PATH and where to pop out (I'm still learning its huge) - you can save yourself from the elements on cold, rainy, snowy or hot days.

Most of my friends still can't believe that I - Ms. High Heeled am taking the TTC, and I'll be honest I sometimes can't believe it myself ... shhhh. When family and friends come to visit from out of city or from the burbs, I always suggest that we leave the cars parked and take the TTC. From the young to the young at heart and everyone in between it's a fun adventure. I highly suggest giving your out of city visitors a TTC experience.

My outings on the TTC in 2015 have included Harbourfront; City Hall; CN Tower; St. Lawrence Market; The CNE; meeting friends at Shangri La and Windsor Arms for tea, The Ritz for Sunday brunch. These are places I would not have considered TTC - but to my surprise the subway got me closer than parking and I've saved a bundle on valet and parking fees and also been able to enjoy a glass or two of  vino/bubbly - that driving would have prevented.
Over all my experiences with the TTC have been good. And yes, I have experienced it during rush hour; delays for track clearing or mechanical problems; the occasional rude or inconsiderate passenger and the odd unfriendly and unhelpful TTC attendant. There have been times when I've ran late for an appointment because of delays - but then I remind myself, an accident on the 401, DVP or Gardnier could have delayed me a lot longer and I would be stuck in stop and go traffic. While on the subway I can read, chat with fellow passengers or just use the time to be in the moment.

This year I've taken my commitment to "true" city living up a notch and am investing in monthly passes.
Let the TTC adventures begin!!

Do you take the Metro where you live? Would love to hear about your experiences - share your thoughts in the comments.

Discovering the Toronto Subway - What I Wear

If you would have told me when I first moved to Toronto 20 plus years ago that one day I would be taking the subway by choice, I would have laughed and probably suggested that you cut back on the bubbly.

After living in the country for the past 7 years, I'm ready to give city life another chance and have been spending more time at my home in the city. When I was speaking with Mr. G. about this "adventure" of returning to the city- I said - I was going to embrace city living like I had never done before - and that included learning to take the subway!  My how life changes, here I am today taking the subway by choice.

And since I don't usually do things the easy way ...
I picked a snowstorm day to venture out and "explore" the subway.

As drivers slipped and slid on the snow covered streets ...

I made my way warm and comfortably beneath the city.  And what's even more amazing about taking the subway is all the underground paths. Once you learn the stops - you can move around the city without venturing out into the cold. If you are lucky to live steps from the subway and work within the subway paths you can literally avoid the winter weather.

I'm learning comfort dressing is key when it comes to taking the subway. My Cole Haan boots, cross body bag from a Paris market, Gucci sunglasses (for when I venture outside), Coach gloves and Michael Kors ear muffs have become my go to winter accessories on my subway days.

My Kenneth Cole winter coat has proven to have been a great investment. It keeps me warm and has a hood that can be easily pulled up when the temps drop, the wind blows and the snow begins to fall. My Ralph Lauren scarf keeps my neck warm.

My pink tones Burberry scarf and black leather Soho shoulder bag - Gucci and Chanel eyeglasses (for indoors).

And what's a subway outing without stopping to enjoy a hot chocolate and treat.
