We have been enjoying some fabulous warm temperatures in Toronto (in between the still lingering unseasonable cool days) and May 9th was perfect for getting out and exploring the city. Though the temperatures were cooperating the weather gal suggested we could expect small bursts of rain. I decided to stay close to home and see what was happening in Riverside. This little neighbourhood spans only 10 blocks along Queen Street East ( between the Don Valley to the west and Degrassi street to east) but has many wonderful gems to be discovered. Easily accessed by street car. My trip today was all about the Toronto Flower Market.
The Toronto Flower Market - had it's season opening day just before Mother's Day. This year's market is located at 659 Queen Street East and if you missed their opening on May 9th - be sure to mark your calender as there are only 5 more market days this season:
June 13, July 11, August 8, September 12 and October 10.
What I loved about the market was that it reminded of the flower markets in Europe and the flowers are Ontario grown!!! I'm already looking forward to June's market.
If you follow along on Instagram you will have already seen the beauties that I scored!!

This little canvas cross-body bag, I picked up at a Paris market in 2010, is perfect for keeping my hands free while I'm out exploring the city.

On Mother's Day Mr. G and I enjoyed a fabulous brunch at Bonjour Brioche |
And of course one does get hungry when exploring. My fav spot to stop and enjoy some wonderful eats is at Bonjour Brioche - you will find it just east of the market on the north side (just before the train bridge over-pass at Degrassi). I've shared about this little French patisserie gem here .
And no brunch at Bonjour Brioche is complete without a treat from the patisserie tray ...
How clever and beautiful is this display of flowers??? ...
I will be checking out this eatery next time I'm in Riverside.

Dearest Celia,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely sight; just like in The Netherlands or in France if you will!
That looks very tempting and my Pieter could stay there for days with all their pâtisserie! Lovely brunch menu too.
You bring back very fond memories for me; something that we don't have here in rural Georgia; in Atlanta you can find the French touch as well...
Thank you for sharing this and also the fresh flowers is such a bliss. You look really well dressed for roaming such market in comfort.
Hugs and blessings,
Mariette
Patisserie tray - my favorite words! Forget the brunch (although it looked amazing)! All I need is the fruited tart and I'd be happy. Jean-Philippe Patisserie at the Bellagio in Las Vegas - CHOCOLATE - (some sold online, JPChocolates.com) was my last patisserie visit - oh my gosh. We bought son's wedding cake there - drooled a lot. I pretty much live "online" now - I love where I live but there's nothing here. You make me "homesick" for city living and all the amazing things offered there. Sigh. You have the best of both worlds! Thank you for sharing that with us!!
ReplyDeleteHmm. what to comment on first. The delectable dessert tray, yum! I love the flowers you looked at and bought and the outfit is perfect for your day of strolling. Love the neutral look and the bag, the chuck shoes are perfect too!
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking up with Turning Heads Tuesday!
