Port Party on a Monday Night! ~ iYellow Wine Club

If you follow me on Instagram, you may already know that there is always a reason to celebrate, and relaxing is not optional! And what could make these two things even more fabulous? Well, a flute of bubbly or glass of wine of course. So imagine my delight when I discovered a local wine club that offers wine events, tours and classes.

One of my favorite Instagram accounts to follow is SuperWineGirl, and lovelies she is a local Torontonian!! Her Insta feed is filled with all things wine, and amazing food pairings, great tips and parties.  Angela Aiello is the gal behind SuperWineGirl, and if inspiring us with her adventures and wine photos wasn't filling our love for all things wine? I recently learned she is also the creator of iYellow Wine Club,

As a Portuguese born gal - whose favourite port wine is Taylor Fladgate, there was little arm twisting needed to get me out a Monday night to attend the Taylor Fladgate 325 year Port Party - hosted by iYellow Wine Club at Spoke Club, with a gal pal, last week; and let me tell you it was an amazing 
experience - in my friends words "best wine party we have attended together in a long time!". From the friendly staff, to the entertainment, snacks and wine sampling it was all done with elegance and attention to detail. I had the opportunity to speak with Angela, and she is most lovely and friendly. I look forward to attending future iYellow events and taking a class or two to learn more about different wines. With the holidays just around the corner the class on Holidays favs is already on my possible activity list for November.

Afternoon Tea at The King Edward - Toronto

When my friend Sophia, who often steeps an afternoon cup of tea for me - during my writing break in the day, was about to celebrate her birthday recently; her daughter (Jennifer) and I along with her darling granddaughter (Miss A.) decided an afternoon tea would be the perfect outing, since we all enjoy an afternoon cup of tea. We choose The King Edward, as it had been a place the ladies wanted to try and I had not taken afternoon tea there for many years. - so it would be a new experience for us all.

    

Once seated we were presented with two beautiful chests of tea, each containing a wonderful selection of teas. Sloane teas is based in Toronto and Tealeaves is based in Vancouver.

I choose a Sloane tea : Bergamont Rose blended black tea... 

Ceylon and Assam black tea perfumed with Italian bergamot, finished with fine French lavender and Jaipur roses, creating a citrus and floral finish. Lovelies this tea was everything that I imagined as I read the description!!

To accompany our tea - we all choose the Duchess of Bedford, which made our taste buds dance with excitement... as we read the selection of delicate pastries: Blood Orange Posset with Cranberry Oat Biscotti Chocolate Mint Macaron Vanilla Bean & Berry Cream Tartlet Layered Chocolate Chestnut Slice and scones: Currant & Cinnamon Scone Classic Cream Scone Served with Devonshire Cream, House Made Ontario Strawberry Jam and Apple Brandy Butter.

The birthday gal was given her own sweets tier - with a special little touch...

You didn't think we forgot the bubbly - now did you?

We had a wonderful experience celebrating Sophia's birthday! Miss A. was particularly fond of the scones; I know Jennifer is planning to return again soon and I will be bringing a special young lady who recently turned double digits - to experience her first afternoon tea - in the next few weeks.

While we opted for Duchess of Earl which includes pastries and scones ... the Earl of Sandwich offers savoury finger sandwiches and scones; and the Traditional Experience offers pastries, savoury finger sandwiches and scones. And of course a glass of bubbly can be added to any of the Afternoon Tea options ... we treated ourselves to a glass of  Glass of Moët & Chandon Brut Imperial; but you can also opt for a glass of sparkling or sherry.

My Toronto - Humber Bay Shores Park

Humber Bay Shores offers amazing views of the Toronto skyline ... 

While there are amazing views, plenty of park benches to sit on ... there are also plenty of grassed areas and rocks. There is a walking path, bicycle path and many little dirt paths through the wildflower gardens. You can enjoy Humber Bay Shores - all year long ... cross country ski, fish, cycle, snowball fights, or just get walk in nature.

The Butterfly Habitat is one of my favourite areas - because it's more than just butterflies - you will find various grasses, wildflowers, and lots of home garden plants. It's a great area to sit and just be in the moment, read a book, enjoy a box lunch, savour a cup of coffee/tea/hot chocolate/smoothie or watch the various birds and wildlife that pass through.

 There are lots of walking paths ... and things to discover tucked in nooks and crannies. On your visit see if you can find some of these:

Butterfly wall ... makes a great back drop for photos ...

The wanderlust rock ... and some of  other fabulous inspirational word engraved rocks...
