Toronto has many wonderful places for afternoon tea ...and I wanted to celebrate my Mother's birthday in style and at place she had not experienced before. So on her visit to Toronto in November, for her belated birthday celebration we headed to Shangri- La hotel.
Shangri-La has one of the largest tea selections in the city...
Three tiers consisting of finger sandwiches, warm oven baked scones and afternoon tea pastries.
Lobster and chive with curried mayonnaise on a brioche roll; roasted chicken and grain mustard mayonnaise on mixed seed bread; cucumber apple and cream cheese on country white; *egg and watercress with crispy Serrano ham on whole wheat; warm chamomile and traditional scones served with homemade berry preserves and English clotted cream; and the dessert tier - Praline Financier, Tropical Bombe, Peppermint Milk Chocolate, Ginger and Cherry Verrine.
*we both were not feeling like egg - the staff were more than happy to substitute for the cucumber apple.
The staff at Shangri-La , knowing we were there to celebrate my Mother's 78th birthday
gave her a little Happy Birthday shout out.
From the sandwiches, to the warm scones, to the tasty sweets and wonderful service it was
a birthday celebration that created wonderful memories for us both!
And if all that wonderfulness of the tea was not enough ...
my Mother was surprised with a petite box of macaron. (and of course she shared them with moi)
I'm looking forward to celebrating my own milestone birthday over afternoon tea at Shangri-La later this month. And during the month of December they are offering a wonderful Nutcracker tea. Get a peek at the Nutcracker High Tea menu here ; the Vegetarian Nutcracker High Tea menu here; and Children's High Tea menu here. I hope you will get a chance to experience the Nutcracker tea, for those who can't get out to the Nutcracker tea, you know I'll be sharing my birthday tea with you, so stay posted.

Awwww, your mama is beautiful! I love her hair, so neatly curled and set. She has a pretty smile. And boy, does that tea look amazing. So much food and all so wonderful sounding. I mean, cucumber apple on country white? Yum! Now I'll have to figure out how to make that!!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to celebrate your mother's birthday in such a very special place...the tea service is beautiful and the food looked truly delicious....Happy Birthday to your mom!
ReplyDeleteDearest Celia,
ReplyDeleteIt was touching to see you radiate such happiness in that photo together with your sweet Mom!
That is so special and makes indeed for very fond memories.
Too bad that I live far, far away as I would love the Vegetarian Nutcracker High Tea version with the Prosecco!
Funny that again there is a link in a way... Just ordered a special Christmas dinner for my baby-sis who's living on welfare. A dinner for 4, to be prepared at home and a bottle of Prosecco I added and also dessert wine, Moscato d'Asti.
Love you for the way you treat your Mom; all daughters should do that!
Hugs and blessings for a cozy and warm weekend indoors... for your region, we will have 27ÂșC on Sunday!
