Peonies , Roses and a Give Away Winner

The garden is alive, each morning there a brilliant surprise awaits us on our morning walk. This morning the peonies were bursting open releasing there magnificent fragrance with each unfurl of a petal.

We thought the deep pink/reddish ones would open first. Mother Nature had other plans ... and the pale pink and white ones are the leaders.

Garden inhabitants are also out and about ... these little miracles paused long enough to be captured in photo.

Many of our roses are full of  promising buds, but it was this rose - MY HERO - that graced us with the first glimpses of rose beauty ... appropriately in time for Father's Day ...as regular readers will recall the rose garden was planted last summer in my father's memory.

Thank you to everyone who entered the Gardener's Box give away. And welcome to new followers and readers. The winner is...

  1. Dearest Celia,

Your Peonies are striking beauties. The 'My Hero' rose looks like a perfect rose too. Fairly new variety and this is the first time I get to see it. Enjoy all your blooming garden treasures. Have a wonderful Sunday and congrats to Judith for winning your fabulous giveaway!
    Love to you,
    Mariette

  3. I have to have my roses in an enclosed compound to keep the deer from eating them. The old brambling roses are the only thing to adorn the rest of my yard. Enough like wild roses that the deer aren't interested. Garden looks lovely.

  5. Thank you Celia, I will definitely enjoy the box of goodies from you!
'My Hero' is a gorgeous red rose and appropriately named for a tribute to your father. I must be sentimental because I love hearing stories of named plants grown to remember someone by and yours is touching. Occasionally one of my readers will ask if I know of a plant with a specific name to buy and honour a special person. Luckily, most names can be found in some form or other.
It's over 80 degrees F in the house and I'm sipping tea. :-)
    Hugs,
    Judith
