It's COLD Outside ...

Welcome to Over a Cup of Tea - #1 for 2014

The weather in Toronto has been extremely cold ... first we had an ice-storm that left almost 300,000 people without power (some for as long as 7 plus days). The past few days the temps have been -20s with wind chill feeling more like - 40!!!

While visiting the Christmas Market in Distillery District just before Christmas (you can read post here) Mr. G and I picked up some great loose leaf teas from a petite tea house.

 This Masala Chai Classic from Sloane Tea Company is perfect to help take the chill off our bones, during this bitter cold weather.


This mug from the Paris hotel in Vegas (a souvenir from my mother -when she was visiting with my brother and his wife a couple years back) was also the perfect size to hold lots of hot tea. 



The images of Paris ... helped me different back to memories of my visits to France and the city of lights.
Some delish and healthy treats with tea. We shared the lemon tart ... I'm making eating healthy a top priority ... BUT I'm not dieting --- opting for moderation.

    Oh, you make me crave for the delicious Chai tea my Indian friend Jyoti makes us by mixing her own blend of spices for it. That is such a joy and yes, each afternoon I have to warm my hands around a cup of tea. Your tea mugs are great and they are for ta as they have wider tops! Perfect find.
    With tea I nibble on one rice cake and also mixed, unsalted nuts go with that!
    You always show the best example of how to eat in moderation and even far more important; how to snack in moderation!

    We are having tonight bitter cold too; it is aleady at present -10“C with the windchill factor - mean cold wind... Longing for spring weather. We got addicted to the tropics after living there for 3 winters!

  2. I like the Sloane teas too and my healthy tea time snacks are a couple of my own baked cookies. I've started using a smaller cookie cutter so I can have 2 each afternoon.

  3. I have never tried Sloane tea because I haven't seen them around here. I like your Paris mug. What a wonderful gift from the romantic city! Your plate of lemon tart and fruit looks delish. To be honest, I prefer to have my tea without a sweet but my hubby always has to have his cookie. *smiles* Thank you for joining me for tea and Happy New Year, Celia.

  4. The tea looks wonderful! I love a good chai...with soy, of course! I haven't seen the brand before. The cup is a wonderful souvenir of both Paris and family. I read it had reached -65 with wind chill in Toronto & Quebec! BBrrrrr!!!!! Stay warm! Thanks so much for linking to Tuesday Cuppa Tea!

    Those teas look really good. I love finding new teas too, although I always find myself drinking chamomile! lol!
    Your desserts today look really delicious to me. I too, am not dieting, but encouraging myself to make healthier choices with snacks. It is challenging to find ones for tea time that fit the "mood".
    You look like you made great choices today. I forget about figs, and I really should remember how simply delicious they are.

  6. Hi Celia, I like your Paris mug. Great to have a larger cup to fill with steaming tea. The tart and the pineapple look good. I generally don't have a nosh with my tea...not that I don't snack but I do most of my tea drinking (3 cups) in the morning, right after breakfast. Wanted to let you know I enjoyed your post on green smoothies. I have made two so far. The first one, I used mixed baby lettuce, strawberries, and blueberries - my "green" smoothie was purple! lol Yesterday I made another for hubby and me: used spinach, mango, peaches, and orange juice. We both loved it! Such an easy way to get in fruits and vegetables. I have often used yogurt in smoothies in the past but am trying to stick with the green smoothie formula for now. Celia, I want to wish you much joy, peace, prosperity, and good health in the coming year.

  7. We don't snack or have treats anymore with tea (*sigh*) so I miss the Snickerdoodles and shortbread cookies. The only sweet I allow myself (very rarely) is what I'm having for my birthday in a few days - flourless chocolate cake. Treats now are oranges, apples, strawberries, carrots, celery... like I said, *sigh* - healthy stuff!

  8. Lovely tea! Perfect for these cold days. I'm doing the same…I found a great cookbook geared toward beautiful eating and it includes tea time recipes! I do appreciate you sharing with A Return to Loveliness,
