Life Transitions ~ The Common Thread

The originating reason for our life transitioning will vary from person to person, but the common thread is that along the journey of transition an overwhelming feeling of uncertainty can will send us on a downward spiral when it comes to taking care of ourselves.

Yet, this is possibly the most important time to make sure we are taking care of ourselves. When our body is functioning properly we feel better and are able to deal with difficult challenges more effectively.

Eat Healthy

It's about a lifestyle of eating. Make sure that you are getting the nutrients your body needs to properly fuel it. It is easy during transitions in life to turn to quick and fast processed foods, buckets of ice-cream, boxes of chocolate and (fill in the blank , with your go to weapon food of choice) to fill the void we are feeling.

Get Adequate Sleep

This means 6-9hours of uninterrupted deep sleep.

Stay Physically Active

Even a walk to the end of the drive-way a few times a day, will get your energy flowing and your body moving.

Personal Hygiene

Few will admit it, but EVERYONE has experienced times when staying buried in bed for a few days at a time has seemed much more manageable, than venturing out and facing the stressful challenges.

Take Time to Relax

Society has conditioned us to think "time is money" and thus relaxing is a waste of both; making us feel guilty if we take time to relax. In truth, relaxing activities provide a restful break and help us to enjoy life. Giving us rejuvenated  strength and clarity to deal with stressful situations.

Nurture Your Inner Self

Find activities that bring clarity of purpose and sense of connection, such as meditation, spiritual/religious practices, or spending time in nature. It's amazing what literally hugging a tree can do for you.

To help us get started Mary at Hope-Filled Living, is hosting an Extreme Self-Care workshop (free) every Wednesday in January. You can catch up with Week One Here and Week Two Here. I have been working along each week, and I highly recommend it as a jump start to getting yourself back on track.

Remember you must first take care of yourself, so that you have the strength to help others.
I'm Finally starting to look forward...

It is scary when a whole NEW BEGINNING is open in front of you ...
just waiting to be LIVED!

Jeremiah 29:11. "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” this is Mary's Life verse, she shared with us. I had not thought about having one ~ but as I read Mary's, it spoke to me. When I mentioned this to her, Mary graciously offered me to also share it as mine.Thank you Mary, for introducing to me to my Life Verse.

I'm joining these wonderful inspirational ladies for:
 Spiritual Sundays

  1. Change can be a golden opportunity for grand improvements.

  2. This post is good timing. I had a long list of things to do today and didn't do a single one of the items on that list because I woke up feeling poorly. I had a choice between pushing myself to get things done or staying home and taking it easy...here I am in bed at 8:25 at night about to go to sleep, happy that I chose to rest.

It's so important that we care for ourselves first before anyone else so we can be there for the people we love.

    Happy weekend! xoxo, A

  3. So true..so true. Many things in this post jump out at me. I often keep myself so busy so I don't have time to sit and relax and think so the insecurities and doubts, fears will not creep up on me. But..you are right..I feel better when I slow things down. I need to do a better job. Thanks for the reminder.

  4. Dearest Celia,

What a great post with lots of valuable truth! Yes, it is tough at times to get going. But with you nudging us and with all that you went through ~ we have no excuse but to DO IT.
    Love to you,

  5. Wonderful! It's amazing how hard it is for us to turn ourselves off at times. Seems when I sit down at night, I think of 10 reasons to get up and do something else. I love to tell myself, "I'm giving myself permission to sit here the rest of the evening." I don't always listen to myself though!

  6. Celia, I'm glad you've discovered your life verse! It's one I love and claim on behalf of the children we work with in Brazil. I posted in on my sidebar beside the Hope Unlimited logo when I started my blog. Such a wonderful promise we've been given!

  7. Such basic, and true and good, advice! Esp the slowing down part... our culture really does make us feel as if we have to be accomplishing things all the time...

  8. Great post, if only we could manage to live by those simple rules. Have a great weekend x

  9. Oh dearest, I TOTALLY BELIEVE THIS IS THE WAY TO LIVE! We were given a body with functions that react best to GREAT CARE..everything you mention here! I feel like I am 25 years old....but one thing I have been lacking lately is that intense aerobic activity I used to get; I still lift weights and I love it, but a good swift walk would feel great!! THANK YOU FOR VISITING MY PIGLET TODAY! Or at least, the photo...I don't have a piglet as a pet!!! Anita

  10. These are all very good suggestions. I'm glad you shared them with us.

  11. Hi Sweet Friend, What a wonderful post and so important for the new year with new beginnings. It is easy to get caught up being busy and not take care, but doing so we must. I believe each and every point you share here and it does make a difference in our lives.

Thank you for sharing and thank you for stopping by and your kind comment.
Have a nice evening and blessed Sunday.
    XOXO Celestina Marie

  12. What a great and much needed post....so glad that I stopped by

  13. This is a beautiful post, Celia.
I have made quite a few important changes related to my health last few years. I have learned to meditate and to be constant with my exercise. It's been challenging at times, but so rewarding! You have written inspiring words that I'll remember throughout the week. Thank you, dear. Enjoy the weekend!

  14. Wow! what a powerful post Celia. I especially love the last image which can feel really exhilarating as well as daunting. I'm making big changes also this year, and altho' generally excited, in the dead of night when everyone is sleeping, and I am awake with my thoughts, I am damn terrified!!!

  15. "You must first take care of yourself, so that you have the strength to help others." Oh how true this is.

I'm endlessly thankful for your outlook on life Celia, that you haven't allowed yourself to be permanently defeated by the hand you've been dealt. This attitude helps a lot of people stay grounded I believe, including myself.

You're a beautiful soul and I'm proud to call you friend. xo

  16. thank you for this wonderful post... the Jeremiah scripture has been a kind lifeline in my life - i understand how it spoke to you.

  17. Totally great post!!! And it's all so important. I wish you joy on your journey--I know that you are impacting the lives of others positively every day in blogland~

  18. Thanks for your very inspiring and nice comment, sweet Celia! And I agree so much with your post. Each of them is so important. I will definitely take care of myself this year! Have a wonderful evening!

  19. I'm so happy I came to visit today. My 2012 word is Healthy and it's amazing to me how God shares the right information right when I need it. Thank you for posting this information.

  20. Celia, what a beautiful post. I am so truly happy that Jeremiah 29:11 has given you peace. I never knew that was my life verse until I was talking to my pastor one day about my experience and shared that God had spoken that verse to me and he said, "Mary, that's your life verse"...I'm grateful to this day that my pastor imparted upon me his wisdom because that verse has helped me through many trials. If you read about Jeremiah, you will know that he was given a difficult ministry and faithfully preached a message that people often did not want to hear. He struggled with doubt and God gave him that message.
