The originating reason for our life transitioning will vary from person to person, but the common thread is that along the journey of transition an overwhelming feeling of uncertainty can will send us on a downward spiral when it comes to taking care of ourselves.
Yet, this is possibly the most important time to make sure we are taking care of ourselves. When our body is functioning properly we feel better and are able to deal with difficult challenges more effectively.
Society has conditioned us to think "time is money" and thus relaxing is a waste of both; making us feel guilty if we take time to relax. In truth, relaxing activities provide a restful break and help us to enjoy life. Giving us rejuvenated strength and clarity to deal with stressful situations.
Find activities that bring clarity of purpose and sense of connection,such as meditation, spiritual/religious practices, or spending time in nature. It's amazing what literally hugging a tree can do for you.

Eat Healthy
It's about a lifestyle of eating. Make sure that you are getting the nutrients your body needs to properly fuel it. It is easy during transitions in life to turn to quick and fast processed foods, buckets of ice-cream, boxes of chocolate and (fill in the blank , with your go to weapon food of choice) to fill the void we are feeling.
Get Adequate Sleep
This means 6-9hours of uninterrupted deep sleep.
Stay Physically Active
Personal Hygiene
Few will admit it, but EVERYONE has experienced times when staying buried in bed for a few days at a time has seemed much more manageable, than venturing out and facing the stressful challenges.Even a walk to the end of the drive-way a few times a day, will get your energy flowing and your body moving.
Take Time to Relax

I had not thought about having one ~ but as I read Mary's, it spoke to me. When I mentioned this to her, Mary graciously offered me to also share it as mine.Thank you Mary, for introducing to me to my Life Verse.

ReplyDeleteThis post is good timing. I had a long list of things to do today and didn't do a single one of the items on that list because I woke up feeling poorly. I had a choice between pushing myself to get things done or staying home and taking it easy...here I am in bed at 8:25 at night about to go to sleep, happy that I chose to rest.

So true..so true. Many things in this post jump out at me. I often keep myself so busy so I don't have time to sit and relax and think so the insecurities and doubts, fears will not creep up on me. But..you are right..I feel better when I slow things down. I need to do a better job. Thanks for the reminder.

Wonderful! It's amazing how hard it is for us to turn ourselves off at times. Seems when I sit down at night, I think of 10 reasons to get up and do something else. I love to tell myself, "I'm giving myself permission to sit here the rest of the evening." I don't always listen to myself though!

ReplyDeleteOh dearest, I TOTALLY BELIEVE THIS IS THE WAY TO LIVE! We were given a body with functions that react best to GREAT CARE..everything you mention here! I feel like I am 25 years old....but one thing I have been lacking lately is that intense aerobic activity I used to get; I still lift weights and I love it, but a good swift walk would feel great!! THANK YOU FOR VISITING MY PIGLET TODAY! Or at least, the photo...I don't have a piglet as a pet!!! Anita

Wow! what a powerful post Celia. I especially love the last image which can feel really exhilarating as well as daunting. I'm making big changes also this year, and altho' generally excited, in the dead of night when everyone is sleeping, and I am awake with my thoughts, I am damn terrified!!!

Celia, what a beautiful post. I am so truly happy that Jeremiah 29:11 has given you peace. I never knew that was my life verse until I was talking to my pastor one day about my experience and shared that God had spoken that verse to me and he said, "Mary, that's your life verse"...I'm grateful to this day that my pastor imparted upon me his wisdom because that verse has helped me through many trials. If you read about Jeremiah, you will know that he was given a difficult ministry and faithfully preached a message that people often did not want to hear. He struggled with doubt and God gave him that message.
