Hot Chocolate In the Summer? -Chocolate Thursdays!

OF COURSE.... Yum!!!

I have been drinking hot chocolate for as long as I can recall and just because the calendar says its summer, I'm not giving up my my morning beverage of choice. I will however cool things down a little when the temperatures sky rocket- as they have been.

So for all of you who thought hot chocolate was just a cold weather beverage .. try this:

Serendipity 3 –lets us in on the secret to making Frozen Hot Chocolate.

Ingredients:
Frozen Hot Chocolate
• 6 pieces (1/2-ounce) chocolate , a variety of your favorites
• 2 teaspoons store-bought hot chocolate mix
• 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
• 1 1/2 cups milk
• 3 cups ice
• Whipped cream
• Chocolate shavings

Directions:
Chop the chocolate into small pieces. Place it in the top of a double boiler over simmering water. Stir occasionally until melted. Add the hot chocolate mix and sugar. Stir until completely melted. Remove from heat and slowly add ½ cup of milk until smooth. Cool to room temperature.

In a blender, place the remaining cup of milk, the room-temperature chocolate mixture and the ice. Blend on high speed until smooth and the consistency of a frozen daiquiri. Pour into a giant goblet and top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

Get Serendipity 3's own chocolate mix at http://www.serendipity3.com/

Additional garnish options; - cinnamon, nutmeg, chocolate chips, - for the "Big Children" I have added a 1/4 cup of banana liqueur or amaretto, to give it a little kick (I reduce the remaining milk by 1/4 of  a cup).

  1. I love hot chocolate :-) Thanks for your supportive comment about my car. It's nothing compared to what you've been through (although I don't know exactly what that is, as I'm new here) and you are right, I have to keep it in perspective... it will be 'new' again soon. It was just upsetting because it was only a week old!

  5. Hot chocolate is one of my favorite winter drinks. I should drink more of it now as opposed to coffee. It is just a habit either way. We just cannot give up everything, can we.

  10. My staff teases me about my hot chocolate habit. I like a cup of hot chocolate with a dash of coffee in the morning pretty much all year long. I am not much of a coffee drinker but I do like my hot chocolate flavored with it! Sometimes I will make it but put it in the freezer until it gets to a slushy consistency. YUM!
