Week-end Inspiration - It's All About You!

Are you think only about positive thoughts ?

Are you taking time for yourself each day?

What moves are you taking in life?

 Have you day dreamed today?

Are you remembering to stay strong when faced with challenges?

Do you remember to call on your angels for help?

When something happens that sends you into chaos take a deep breath and have faith that all will work out for your highest good- even if it doesn't feel or look like that at that moment. And know that change is constant so the storm will pass.

What is important is not what happens to you in your life - but how you react to it. Your reaction will set in motion the next events. Remember It's All About You! So think positive, believe, have faith and know you are never alone ~ your angels are always there to help guide you along life's journey.

Are you living your best life - at this very moment?

Wishing you a High Heeled Life week-end,

Who Will You Be?

We all know " life happens when you are busy making plans", sometimes it's a positive occurrence and sometimes it knocks you right out of your heels. When it's the latter and the dust settles, you look around and try to find the person you were, you want to find the life you had. This search can go on for years, until you accept the you who was, is no longer.

When you realize Life isn't about finding yourself - but about creating yourself it can become even more overwhelming.  Looking back I could barely make a decision on what I would eat, let alone try to create who I would be. What I did know- actually it was more of a feeling than an actual knowing, was that if I didn't keep moving forward I would shrivel up and remain in a constant state of survival.  Survival was better than victim ... But Thriving trumped both. And I just felt THRIVING was were I needed to get to.

The Journey to where I am today has been long, but I have learned so much along the way. One of the things for me that became monumental was realizing that I could still have a High Heeled Life - it was just going to look a little different, but I had the power to create it. And as my life continues to evolve I have to say, who knew simplicity and High Heels could co-exist? Accepting the place you are at in your life at this moment is the first step to creating yourself.

Next step for me was Who Will You Be? this is the question I have been asking myself since accepting that my life and me prior to my accident is no longer. It's taken me a while to realize the answer has been starring me in the face each time I read a comment to a post I have shared about my journey post-accident. I can use my voice and my abilities to make a positive difference in the world ~ by helping others to stay strong, not give up and encourage them create their life - despite being knocked out of their own heels.

Perhaps you are facing a disability that in your wildest thoughts you never imagined could happen to you. Perhaps you have been affected financially with all that is going on with the world economy. Perhaps you find yourself on your own or raising your children as a single parent. I know when something devastating happens it can leave you feeling powerless, I know - I have lived it. But I'm here to say - even when things seem to be the darkest in your life, there really is a silver lining, and being able to see it only depends on YOU - and how you choose to react to the situation. Will you let it deflate you or will you let strengthen you?

Now I ask you ...
Who Will You Be?

This Valentine's be Your Own Valentine ...Part I

Valentine's Day much like other celebrations has fallen prey to "commercialization". The day has evolved from the simple exchange of handwritten letters and cards from the heart and possibly a small sentimental token of one's affection; to a feeling of obligation and/or entitlement for most anyone in a relationship.

Wanting (needing) to be loved and to love someone is part of our human nature. So when Valentine's Day rolls around - not having a special someone to show us love and romance can leave us feeling deflated/unworthy. But, just because one is in a relationship does not guarantee the feeling of being loved, wanted, needed - actually the expectations we set (of our loved one) can end up leaving us unfulfilled and lonely - if our loved one does not meet them.

It's almost as if Valentine's Day has become (perhaps unconscious) benchmark of "how much we are loved". This benchmark is as different as we are individual, for some the simple card with a handwritten note or a phone call is all they need. While others feel they are not loved unless flowers (red roses - long stemmed- at that), fancy dinner out/night on the town, diamonds, pearls or a little orange or blue box is involved.

What I have learned over the years is that one should not depend on another person to feel loved, complete and pampered. After all we are the constant person in our life, as such it is important that we learn to be good to our self on daily basis.

The first time this Ah ha moment happened for me, was in 2002 ~ after renting for a number of years (thinking that I should wait until Prince Charming rode in on his horse and we would buy our castle together)  I was getting tired of paying someone else's mortgage and was looking into taking the plunge into home ownership. At this time I had been in a relationship with someone on and off for a couple years, who for the most part spent 90% of his time, when not working or being out with friends, at my apartment (and contributed nothing). When I brought up the subject of buying a home - this person tried their best to talk me out of it. To make a long story short - with the help of a dear girl friend, I found a home I was comfortable with and made the deal on my own. When I shared my joy with then boyfriend - he went ballistic, how could I do this without him? As my girl friend had said as I signed the deal, "you know this is going to be the end of your relationship" to which I smiled and responded "Yes, and I'm going to be a home owner". I would learn later that he wasn't in a financial/emotional position to leave the comfort of his parent's home - and to think that I was, well that just wasn't going to happen (if he had anything to do with). Almost 11 years later I still own that home, he last I heard still lives with his parents.

The day I moved into my home I realized that only I could make my dreams a reality and that was the day I promised to love and take care of myself - not depending on someone else to make me happy, feel loved or nurtured. By really loving myself (and respecting myself) I became more satisfied internally and externally and thus I attracted more love, happiness and abundance into my life.

Much has happened since 2002 and I sometimes find myself walking slightly off my Ah ha moment path, these past few of years (since my accident in 2007). But, just like in 2002 only when I truly (unconditionally) believe in myself, nurture, and love myself ~ can my dreams become reality. Loving one's self means accepting yourself as you are at this very moment - and loving and accepting both your strengths and limitations.

Join me for tea later this week - and I'll share some ways to rekindle the Romance with yourself.

Change is in the Air...

Change is something that forces us from our comfort zone.

Change may not always be something we  initiated, and often
blind sides us. But we can can take back control - by finding the opportunity(ies) in change instead of letting it (change) take us down.

Change comes with its own built in grieving/adjustment period and the length of this period is as individual as we are. I have come to refer to this time as "Life in Transition". Life as we knew it or the person we were no longer fit - in the present; and the future is unknown.

Change makes us look deep within ourselves and find strength we did not know existed. With this strength guiding us we are able to do our personal best and than some.

Until we are ready to move forward, it may feel that we have been defeated by change. But this feeling will pass and we will conquer change. For one thing is constant with change ... IT will always be there urging us towards our life's purpose. Often in ways that we could not have imagined.

Change is won when during our "Life in Transition" period we find our self going from surviving to Thriving; the choice to move towards Thriving is ours.

As the plantings of summer make way for the harvest of autumn, it is the perfect time to look at what changes have been planted in our life and start harvesting the opportunities instead of focusing on the weeds that may also have taken root!

For me post accident, I have found the opportunity of giving to others, by sharing my story and journey.

What opportunities have you found within changes in your life, that at first you thought there could be no good in it?

Getting my Joie de Vivre Back ~Part one

Trying to re-discover your passion for life or your creativity ~
to say it can be overwhelming, would
certainly be an understatement. Making it worse is often the chaotic, treadmill we find our every day lives on.

Perhaps ... we can learn a little from those who have mastered the Joie de Vivre .

Take time to think, and reflect on your thoughts...
Even a bird needs a quiet place to think.

Treat yourself to the small things in life that really bring a smile to your face.

Take inspiration from those who are passionate about their creativity.
AND are doing it!!

Look back in time to the those who came before us and followed their passion, their dreams...

Remember asking for a little guidance .... believing and having faith goes a very long way.

Find your inner child. Children are fearless, and adventurous...
take a chance.

Even the tiniest of God's creatures ~ will teach us , nothing is impossible!
Put your heart and soul into it and you too can get out of the cage your in!

I have taken the past week ... to pause and observe, those who seem to have figured out the "secret" to Joie de Vivre  ... can you guess where I have been doing my research?

Eating for a Heathy Glow...

Part Three of  Three
Putting Your Best Face Forward....

If you want to have young and supple looking skin with a healthy natural glow it is important to take inventory of what you are putting into your body. Here are some foods that I am trying to incorporate into my eating habits to help get my body back on track and to get healthy glowing skin.

WATER: The more water we drink, the more we help our system to flush all toxins out of our body and the healthier our skin is going to look.

Green Tea: Green tea is rich in antioxidants which help reduce inflammation and protect cell membranes. It is important to remember to get the most benefit - do not add sugar or milk to green tea.

Berries:  Are rich in antioxidants ... strawberries, blue berries, black berries and raspberries add to yogurt or eat on their own.

Salmon: This yummy food is high in healthy fatty acids that are key for achieving healthy skin... Omega 3s. Flaxseeds are alos great way to get the healthy fatty acids.

Spinach: A fav food of mine is great for clearing up acne and promoting skin repair. Vitamin rich foods such as carrots and broccoli are also part of my veggie increase.

To help achieve and maintain healthy skin I am working on eliminating: sugar, white flour, saturated fats and fried foods from my "LifeStyle" eating.
Please share what food changes you have done to help improve your health and skin!

Reinventing Challenge

I challenge you …

Dare to dream who and what you could become, and then take steps to reinvent yourself. Come along my adventurous journey!

In everyone’s life comes a time when they feel that a change needed. The reason for a change varies, it may manifest out of natural growth and evolution, or it may be a choice to catapult oneself into a new life and a new self. You may want to explore a new career, move to a different city, seek out new relationships, activities and behaviors. The path you are on no longer holds the luster and challenges it once did- routine has set in; the loss of a loved one; occurrence of a traumatic accident/event; divorce; children growing up; motherhood, etc. the reasons are endless. With so many options and opportunities open to us, there's no reason to stay stuck for a lifetime in something you're bored with at best, or miserable in at worst.
Although, some people will just continue to live as is and do nothing to better their situation. Others will take drastic steps ~ resulting from a need to have immediate overnight change – know as a knee- jerk reaction. Still, others feel unable to move forward until they bury their “old” self – every last morsel.

For me it was my accident, life as I knew it, is no more. When this reality hit me, I was determined to leave myself behind – close the chapter on that part of my life. I have struggled desperately for the past couple of years trying to bury the person (me) that I loved so much – yes I was very happy with me – my career, social life, appearance etc. But try I as I might it I couldn’t close the chapter– I couldn’t understand why, until a meeting with my Behavioral Therapist (BT). BT said something that left me thinking “why would you want to stop being who you were? You were an amazing woman! Why close the chapter, yes you are different but you are still you – but now you have an ABI [acquired brain injury]. After our meeting I started to think yes, instead of closing (burying) me c0mpletely and creating a whole new me – I would modify to fit my limitations and life with an ABI. I would create a modified version.

My new friend ~ known to many of you in BlogLand as Suburban Princess – used the term “reinventing” – yes, I thought, that is what I’m doing - not “creating” but reinventing me. I feel much better about this term.

Today is August 1, 2010 ~ the day I had chosen as the beginning of creating Reinventing Me!! Reinventing is taking what is there, all that I've learned along the way and bringing it together with a fresh focus that is me.

My immediate goal is to work on my outside packaging, I may not return to the 113Lb person I was – but I am determined to get back into shape. I am going to work hard to build up my cardio - work my way to getting to the gym 2-3 times a week.

What is your immediate goal?

"Life isn’t about burying who you were. Life is about Reinventing yourself ". ~High heeled Life , 2010

Just Who Will You Be?

Life Is what happens when you are busy making plans!

Anyone who has faced an unexpected detour in their life, [accident, loss of a loved one, divorce, down sized from job, learning they are not able to give birth, lifestyle downsizing etc.] will often wonder "Who am I now"?

Early in my recovery, I was given the book  Just Who Will You Be? written by Maria Shriver. At the time, as a friend read it to me, I did not realize that this book would [almost two years later] be the "Wind" that would set my sails into an unknown future.

I have not thought about this book and yet something drew me to it as I looked at my bookshelf. When I picked it up - it open to the following prayer:

We have been telling people that this is the eleventh hour
Now we must go back and tell the people that this IS the Hour.
Here are the things that must be considered:

Where are you living?
What are you doing?
What are your relations?
Where is your water?

Know your garden.
It is time to speak your truth.

Just like Maria, I am asking myself  "If this is the hour how do I want to spend it?" "What do I want to do with it?"

Even more interesting is, I will be going away for a few days. Away from the stresses of rehab, day to day life and although I am not going alone [I'm  unable to travel completely on my own]; I am going with a dear friend who just wants to lay in the sun and relaxe.

I truly belief that everthing in life, good or not so good, happens for a reason. So, I will be taking Maria's book with me - reading it on my own this time. While my friend is busy relaxing, I will be reading and trying to figure out just "Who I Will Be!"

If you are trying to figure out "where to now" or "who am I now", I highly recommend this book. Check your local book store.

Visit often over the next few weeks to see where I am at on my journey to creating me. Wishing everyone peace and courage!
