Weekend in the City - Spring

The weather has certainly been amazing here in Toronto and the warmth and sunshine is really beckoning me to get outside. Here are some of the things I'm considering this weekend...

According to the park's website - the original prediction of full bloom between April 23 and 26 has now extended through the weekend of April 29 and 30. It really is a sight to behold, and unlike most things we can access on demand - if you miss this year's bloom - you will need to wait another year to experience this magical show from mother nature. Whether you are passionate about sewing, knitting, felting, quilting, beading, stitching, crocheting, scrapbooking, embellishing, crafting and other creative art forms, there is something you to fuel your creative bone.

Authors of Indies Day

On April 29, get out and help support independent bookstores.  The event takes places at various locations throughout the city with readings, signings and appearances - click here for more information.. runs all day from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Catch two of the finest Jazz musicians in the country, Ted Quinlan & Mike Downes at Arvo Coffee in the Distillery District on April 30th - admission is free. more info here.

The 2017 Hot Docs Festival,  showcases 230 films from a record 58 countries -  April 27 to May 7.  Tickets range from from $17 - $24 ... View film schedule HERE.

FREE Daytime Screenings ~ Courtesy of documentary Channel

Seniors (60+) and students with valid ID can take advantage of free admission to films that start before 5:00 p.m. Pick up your tickets at the screening venue’s box office on the day of the screening, subject to availability.

Last weekend to experience Street Food Market at the Evergreen Brick Works.  Since early March  weekend visitors to the Evergreen Brick works have been enjoying a collection of local, street-inspired eateries from across the GTA. Kick off your weekend with a breakfast fix starting at 10 am ... or visit through the day until 5:00 pm on both Saturday and Sunday.  I know I'm looking forward to experiencing the Wafel Bar!! Rainy Day Essentials ... For the City Gal on the Go

Rainy Day Essentials featuring Pasotti

Whether you drive about town or use public transportation, this spring don't let rainy days leave you feeling all damp and soggy ~ with a few essentials you will stay dry and looking chic!

Rain Coat: 

From trench coats to parkas you can keep dry and looking fabulous whether going to work, dinner out or just running errands.

The Rain Boot:
Don't take a chance stepping in a puddle and having to walk around with wet feet. With so many styles to choose from, rain boots can really be a way to have fun, add a little punch to your outfit and let your personality shine.   

Umbrella:
Just like rain boots use an umbrella to show off your personality! One of my favourite umbrella is the Pasotti ... it is hand crafted and comes in so many styles and in both classic and folding size. I have shared my Pasotti Purple Dahlia umbrella in the past here and here - it was worth the investment.

Hat:

Sometimes there is just enough drizzle to to frizz your hair, a hat will help keep your hair dry.

Gloves and Scarf:
I don't know about you - but my hands can get pretty cold  - I like to keep a pair of gloves in my tote just in case and a scarf can help keep the dampness for settling in. I've been thankful on many occasions to have had a scarf in my tote - when unexpected rain happens.

Tote or Cross Body bag:
When the rain hits juggling your hand bag and umbrella can resemble a circus act - especially if wind is involved. I like to keep my hands free and find a tote/or cross body bag perfect! also I can use the extra room to carry some shoes to change into if needed.

Waterproof Mascara:
Wind and rain are not a good combination, to keep raccoon eyes away - I turn to water proof mascara when I know I will be dashing about throughout the day.

My Paris Find - The Start of My Love Affair with Lipault ... & What I Wore

It all started on our FIRST day in Paris!! Ms. E and I were strolling around our neighbourhood in the Marais to familiarize ourselves with the area. When we stumbled across the newly opened Lipault boutique... looked innocent enough from the outside.

But one step inside and your eyes dance from piece to piece in a symphony of colours.  And as much as the friendly sales man encouraged me to touch the luggage, open it, experience it ... I tried hard to resist - but one innocent touch and I knew as my fingers delicately ran over the exterior I had to learn more... and I knew it was going to be trouble!!!

3 Essentials For Strolling in Paris - What I Wore

Comfortable SHOES ....
Walking around Paris is exhilarating and magical - during the day I did not stray too often from my Converse sneakers (I even dubbed them Official High Heeled Life wandering about Paris footwear!!
as those who followed along on Instagram will recall), but in the evening I got a little lift from Michael Kors. I have become a HUGE fan of wedges and these are funky, stylish and COMFY!!! perfect for strolling the streets of Paris after dinner.

A SCARF ... 

Of course the weather changes quickly - especially along the Seine river. Always prepared with Le Scarf ...

A low maintenance HANDBAG ...

And a handbag that carries all you need and you are not afraid to place on the ground.

What I wore: peasant blouse - Stella Rosa (Italy); pants - Khakis by Gap; shoes - Michael Kors; leather handbag - B. Makowsky; pink scarf/wrap - Di Firenze (I have owned for years).

We have all been there at one time or another, walking along when without any warning your heel gets caught in a sidewalk crack or street grate. If you are lucky you escape injury, but more often than not your shoes are ruined. And let's not forget the embarrassment.
