Making New Moon Intentions (NMI)

Recently reading an article written by my Spiritual teacher, I was reminded about making New Moon Intentions. Before my accident I would on occasion make a New Moon Intentions list. NMI as implied are written during a new moon. I use to think of it as an opportunity to start goals fresh with the new moon- much like setting goals at New Years.

July 8th, 2013 is a New Moon in Cancer: This is an optimal time for anyone who is working on the core of their personal foundation. It is the perfect time to shed old feelings and behaviours that are making you feel insecure and allow ourselves to be nurtured and cared for.

Some intentions for the New Moon in Cancer: home/family; safety; growth; feelings/moods; intimacy/caring skills; releasing insecurities; nurturing.

How to write New Moon Intentions:

~ Choose an area of your life in which you would like to see growth (i.e. relationship; career; education; more sleep/relaxation, etc.)
~ You should make more than 1 intention, but no more than 10
~ Create a little ritual - light a candle and connect with Spirit (do whatever you do to connect with Spirit). The important thing here is to open your heart (and mind) and hold your intention.
~ Hand write your intentions on the day of the New Moon
~ When writing down your intentions it is important to be specific, clear and simple (i.e. I take 30 minutes in my day for myself each day)
~ After you have written your intentions go back and read them. If an intention is not resonating or making sense, be willing to change your focus. Listen to your  heart wisdom (intuition). If after you have changed the wording or focus and it still does not feel right, consider waiting until an other time to make that intention.
~ Date your list and keep it in a safe place

Do/have  you  made New Moon Intention lists in the past?
Would love for you to share one of your intentions past or present.

  1. I have not made an NMI list before, but as we just moved into a new home in the country, it seems like a perfect time to start!

One thing I know I'm going to be working on is putting in a garden for the season that is left. I've never had a place where I could do that before.

I also want to take better care of my health, so I can be around to enjoy my new life (family, new home, etc) for a long time...and so I'll feel better in the meantime. :O)

  2. Dearest Celia,
No, never I've made a New Moon Intention list but it makes sense; even more so than the annual New Year's Intention list. This is more short term and better to overlook.
    Lovely posting!
    Hugs to you,
    Mariette

  3. Celia I will do this; it is certainly something that can help in my journey right now.
My health, strength, stamina are of utmost importance after 7 hospital stays, also relaxing and getting more sleep. I cannot thank you enough for inspiring me and being my friend.

Oh, so interesting to read how you do NMI. Moon and stars are likely to have magical power, don't they♡♡♡

  7. Wow! I have never heard of this before. Have you had any past intentions that have transpired? I do affirmations daily, but I guess that is not quite the same. Would love to learn more (am going to the oracle of all knowledge-the Google" ;-)

  8. Bonjour mon ami! I have never heard of this and I'm intrigued with learning more. I thought I would have more time since graduating but life is still in full speed... although in a good way =)

  10. I will add this to my "to do" list. I love a good ritual, especially Pagan. I always recite a little chant to the full moon every month. I must look a bit of a loony standing on the boat, hands raised talking to the moon! Feels good though, I stop myself from howling :-)
