Light Cafe on Baldwin

Whether you are looking to satisfy your appetite, sweet tooth or looking for a hot/cold beverage Light Cafe is serving up a great selection of gourmet café food and drinks with a contemporary twist. Super friendly and welcoming staff. A great up beat vibe, lots of natural light filters in from the floor to ceiling window ... and the live plant wall really is a wonderful touch of green - it's like being outside indoors.

The Lobster Bisque is scrumptious!!

I fell in love with this yummy treat! The strawberry mille feuille is a delectable melody of light flaky pastry, cream, fresh strawberries, a petite scoop of strawberry ice cream, and an infusion of strawberry puree. It really is a party for the senses!!

Feeling a little parched or looking for a place to enjoy a hot or cold beverage? Light Cafe has you covered with their extensive offering: espresso bar, slow drip hand brew coffee, infused loose leaf tea, au laits, and refreshing alternatives.
On a recent visit ... I took a little break from my writing day with leisure reading and a cup of Earl Grey Rose Au Lait!! ( lovelies if you enjoy an Au Lait, you must try this one, you will thank me!)

Light Cafe is located at : 23 Baldwin Street
Easily accessible via the St. Patrick TTC Station or the 505 Dundas street car McCaul stop.
See menu here or visit their website: LightCafe.ca
NOTE: this is a CASH only establishment

If you have experienced Light Cafe, would love for you to share your fav menu item in the comments.

Old School Toronto

Are you in need of some old fashion comfort food - Old School Toronto is a must try. Friendly staff, good vibes and a menu selection that includes the most amazing pancake dishes - like this one I woofed  enjoyed like I hadn't had pancakes in years. Perhaps it was the melody of flavours - fried banana, fluffy pancakes, bacon (lots of it), butter and maple syrup dancing on my taste buds.

Located at 800 Dundas Street West,

La Société ~ a little bit of Paris in Toronto

I have been wanting to try La Société for some time and this past weekend
Mr. G. treated me to a birthday dinner there.
La Société is tucked in on the second floor of the Colonnade ...
right in the heart of mink mile. From the decor, the massive stained glass ceiling and
lively ambiance  you feel like you've just stepped into a restaurant in Paris.

Let's Eat Toronto: Chabrol

Last week came to an end with beautiful weather - sunshine and warm temperatures. And having been inside most of the week writing it wasn't difficult to convince myself to get out and enjoy the sunshine. I made my way to Yorkville for a little stroll. As I walked by Chabrol - I have been wanting to check it out since I first heard about them a little over three months go - but was also aware that a seat without reservations may difficult - I took a chance.
And yes all the table seating was occupied - but there was space at the bar.
Since I was still a little stuffy ... I decided on the soup...
Chestnut Soup with Sheep's Milk Crème Fraîche, Espelette Croutons, and Sorrel

It was beyond delicious ...
I was just going to have a soothing cup of tea ...
but when I saw what a fellow diner was enjoying I just couldn't resist..

This sweet delight is made to order and takes 20 minutes ...
Time passed so quickly as I sat enjoying my soothing cup of tea, listening to the French playlist playing in the background, and chatting with some Chabrol regulars.

Apple Tarte with Calvados Sabayon - my new sweet addiction favourite!! I have a feeling my afternoon cup of tea will be outside High Heeled Life headquarters (aka home office) from time to time.
Words do not begin to describe how fabulous this is.
A complimentary confection ~ Calissons ~ a Provencal sweet treat that dates back to the 15th century, consisting of almond and crystallized fruit base coated with royal icing and with an orange blossom fragrance - is like a little bite of heaven. I truly hope they will start packaging these French delights and offer them for purchase.

This little gem is tucked in from the hustle and bustle of Yorkville Avenue at the end of a long patio. Chabrol may be petite in size, I believe it seats 15-20, but it is HUGE in atmosphere! The staff is friendly and makes you feel welcomed from the moment you step through the door. The quaint space has a cozy feel and the closeness in seating reminds me of Paris bistros, inviting conversation between strangers. The large floor to ceiling windows provide an abundance of natural light. If you are seated along the bar you will have a view of the Chef creating his magic. The menu is influenced by the cuisine of Southern France ~ you can take a peek at the menu here

With the warmer weather upon us, the patio will soon be in use, providing additional seating. It will be serviced from an outside kitchen and offer a Champagne bar. Chabrol is like going to a friend's home for a visit with exceptional food, drink and great conversations. The set up is proof that good things come in petite packages!

Looking forward to my next visit!

Let's Eat Toronto: Cluny Bistro & Boulangerie

Photo taken during my first visit in late summer 2015 - where the crowd enjoyed the outdoor patio.
As you walk through the doors you become instantly aware that you are stepping into something extraordinary. To the left is a boulangerie that rivals many of the ones I have visited in Paris; straight ahead is the dinning room, which instantly ignites memories of my visits to Ladurée on the Champs-Elysées and Angelina on Rivoli; and to the right is the bar, both elegant and inviting. For this visit Mr. G. and I enjoyed a wonderful weekend late lunch early dinner in the bar area.

 Framed drop ceiling ..
the decor is breath taking!

They offer a great selection of oysters ... pick your favourite or discover a new one

I am not much of a French onion soup gal ... but I did try Mr,.G's and it was impressive.
Mr. G. is a true connoisseur and he was still raving about how amazing it was the next day.

Mr. G. went for the Steak and Frites
the beef is raised naturally, hormone & antibiotic free in Grey County

Moi .. 3 cheese omelet topped with truffles ..
YUM! does not begin to describe how pleased I was with my choice!

Passion Fruit Soufflé - from summer visit
We got our dessert to go from the boulangerie  - and forgot to take photos before devouring the mouth watering works of art, so I'm including a photo of the Passion Fruit Soufflé from summer visit, which I highly recommend you try. It is as scrumptious as it looks

Cheers ...

Mr. G. is already planning reservations for the dinning room ...
I think Cluny's is going to be on the list of our favourite places to dine.

Cluny Bistro & Boulangerie is located in the Distillery District - visit their website here
