Afternoon Tea and Hammocks

So happy you stopped by for a visit today.

There is just something about enjoying a cup of tea surrounded by nature.

This masterpiece by Darien inspired this outdoor hammock setting last summer. Below are some photos from a lazy afternoon in the summer of 2011, which I shared over at my other blog, last summer.

This truly was a great place to lounge and read and write....

nibbling on fresh fruit and sipping iced-tea....

Can't wait for the champagne grapes to arrive at our local garden market, this year!!!

from the location of this hammock the gardens are not in view ... so I used a  Limoges teacup and saucer, topped the teacup with a matching butter dish insert to create a floral frog , added a lily from the garden - and voila ... instead garden treat!

As much as I have enjoyed this hammock setting ...

The extreme heat we have been experiencing this summer has me longing for a hammock near the water, like in this beautiful painting by Wiles. We don't have a large lake like in the painting... but we do have a stream! So I set about finding a place on the property that would be a perfect setting for view of the stream and provide a cool place.

Mr. G. is working on transforming the area between these trees as such a retreat. He has cleared the over grown area between the trees, and set up a temporary hammock (not properly secured yet) to give me an idea of what it will look like. I'm looking forward to the completed project and enjoying the lazy hot summer afternoons of August ... taking tea in nature and looking out to this.....

Thank you for visiting.

  1. Dearest Celia,

You found the perfect spot with a great view! What a romantic stream you have. That is very special. However romantic such a property is, there is an ongoing battle for 'maintaining' it, the way we like it! Enjoy your summer and dreams of improvements on-going. Have a soothing tea and nice read.
Love to you both from your Georgia tea-friends.

  4. Hi Celia
Wouldn't that be ideal, to lay on a hammock and view water - doesn't matter if it's a stream. My DH keeps saying he wants to string one up in the tea house beside the pond but I think not!

  8. What a lovely spot by the stream for a hammock! It is quite a hot Summer we are having here in the Maritimes too. I'm thankful we can get out to the beach on hot days such as we are supposed to have tomorrow. They are saying we could get up to 30 degrees.
I like the lily in your teacup; very beautiful! Your artwork is a lovely touch today too. Thank you for sharing and coming by for tea.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  14. My hubby has wanted a hammock in the backyard for as long as I can remember. If it could look like what you created in your backyard, I'd do it in a heartbeat!

  15. I remember the original post. Because of that post, I made a point of finding a pitcher just like the one on your tea table. I absolutely love it, too! It is so vintage and beautiful. I must tell you, Miss C, that your posts have inspired my life, helped me make changes and made me - forced me - to slow down and truly enjoy each moment. Thank you.

It's my old work and does not reflect how I write today, but friends tell me it still has something to offer so I keep it out there. You are a very inspirational lady!!! Hope to learn more about you. I've followed you ontwitter (I'm @atmicsplendour). I'm sure you will inspire many to great things! Hope you are well on the way to mending! :-) Richard.
