The Month in Photos - April 2017

When you take time to reflect ... it's amazing how many small things you really enjoy!
Here is a snapshot of what made my April...

The bitter cold made way for mild chills and the urns on the front porch got a little more colorful.
Enjoyed afternoon tea at Colette Grand CafĂ© with my friend Shirley ...
Attended a women's networking event at Verity - learned great stuff and mingled with some amazing
women who are building their Empires!
Easter lunch at home was a great reminder of the importance of having
regular gatherings over a meal.
The great weather beckon road trips to the country home .. and these two were all in!
The Resilientista Magazine launched in April with the Spring 2017 issue.
If you missed it you can read it here ... and you can subscribe ( IT'S FREE) HERE.
Attended CAFTCAD - one of Toronto's busiest working stages - WOW ! what unique finds
from film and television productions shot in Toronto - such fun!!
Made my way to the Evergreen Brick Works and discovered some amazing Belgium waffles.
Will be keeping an eye out for where the Wafel Bar truck will be in the city this summer.
My favourite highlight for April was making it to High Park to enjoy the cherry blossoms!
It really is magical - and this year Mother Nature really put on quite a show..

What made your high light reel in April ?

Weekend in the City - Spring

The weather has certainly been amazing here in Toronto and the warmth and sunshine is really beckoning me to get outside. Here are some of the things I'm considering this weekend...
According to the park's website - the original prediction of full bloom between April 23 and 26 has now extended through the weekend of April 29 and 30. It really is a sight to behold, and unlike most things we can access on demand - if you miss this year's bloom - you will need to wait another year to experience this magical show from mother nature. Moonbean Coffee Company

Moonbean Coffee Company is a micro roaster of amazing coffee which they ship all over the country, call Toronto home. But, they are more than just fabulous coffee ... in the cafe you will also find:
when you need a juice fix , they can fill it

And if it's a cup of tea you fancy ... they offer a wonderful selection of over 30 loose leaf teas.

There is plenty of seating - and when the weather permits ... they have patio seating.
On a recent visit, my friend Shirley and I went for the tea .. I choose Angel Falls and she went for the Milk Oolong Wuyi Mountains.

Of course I had to try one of their baked goods
... and the carrot muffin was divine, super moist and just paired perfect with my tea.
If you find your self in Kensington Market, make your way over to 30 St. Andrews Street.

Allan Gardens ~ A Touch of Spring in Winter

Allan Gardens is one of Toronto's oldest parks ~ the conservatory built in 1910, and houses an amazing permanent collection of exotic plants which are supplemented with colourful seasonal flowers and flower shows. Spanning six greenhouses, approximately covering 16, 000 square feet.

This past weekend though the sun was shining there was a steady flow of visitors, taking in all the splendor. There are benches placed throughout - so you can rest or sit and take in all the beauty around you.

Along with the beautiful oasis in the city the park also offers ...
Lots of park benches to sit and enjoy the day ...
A doggie park with separate off leash areas for large and small furbabies...
A fenced playground for children with lots of slides, and playground equipment...
The doors to the conservatory beckon you in...
The glass ceiling is breath taking ...
From the moment you step through the doors it's like entering into spring ...
the greenery and pathways from greenhouse to greenhouse pull you in.
Pops of colour are everywhere ,,,

There's even some turtles to delight the young and those not so young...

If you love orchids as much as I do, you will be in absolute orchid heaven!!

Allan Gardens is located at 19 Horticultural Avenue, (south side of Carlton Street, between: Jarvis and Sherbourne Streets). Easily accessible by TTC. Open year round 10 am - 5 pm , admission is free and wheel chair accessible.

Some dates to make note of, from the Allan Gardens Conservatory website:

The 2017 Spring Flower Show will begin March 1, and run until May 14. The spring show culminates with the Easter flower show.

Easter Masses of various hydrangeas, Easter lilies and bulbs are in full bloom beginning Palm Sunday. The show runs for 3-4 weeks, ending after Easter.
The 2017 Easter Show will begin April 14.

Summer

The Summer Show features many of the newest varieties of annual flowers including coleus, geraniums, caladiums, cannas and impatiens. The show runs from June-September.
Fall
Discover the beauty of autumn in the City! The Fall Chrysanthemum Exhibition is featured from Early October to mid November. Hundreds of colourful pot mums, cascades, standards and baskets flourish in the conservatory.

Christmas Flower Show

The Christmas Flower Show is the highlight of the year. The entire conservatory is decorated and filled with thousands of flowering plants and more than 30 varieties of poinsettia. In addition, the conservatory features several topiary masterpieces inspired by the holiday season and created entirely of plant material.
Grand openings are held in December and visitors are treated to horse and wagon rides, carolers, hot apple cider and a visit from Santa.
Grand opening dates are as follows:
  • Allan Gardens Conservatory: 1st Sunday of December
The conservatory can also be enjoyed by candlelight on several weekends. The show runs until mid January. Please view the Parks, Forestry and Recreation calendar for more details.
Mark your Day Planners (I know I have) ... you will not want to to miss these flower shows!!
