7 Things to Do this Holiday Season

In today's fast paced, instant gratification world where anything you want is just a click away why not take a step back and enjoy some "old fashion" holiday cheer. Below are few things that are synonyms with the holiday season ...

Attend a performance of the Nutcracker Ballet
To me the Nutcracker ballet captures the magic of the season... dreaming, believing, imagination. A great opportunity to introduce little ones to ballet. If you can't make it to a live performance, you can watch it via DVD.

Watch the original 1947 version
- with Natalie Wood, Maureen O'Hara and John Payne
Cold evenings and afternoons offer the perfect opportunity to gather the family and watch a movie.

Host a Christmas Hot Chocolate party
Hot chocolate is perfect for taking the cold winter chill off. For adults you can add a little liqueur and for the children (young and old) marshmallows and sprinkles are always a huge hit!

Volunteer - at your local shelter
there are many families who without the help of volunteers will not have a holiday meal. Make a difference, it's a gift that is priceless.

Have your picture taken with Santa
You are NEVER too old to believe in Santa ...

Bake cookies
Ginger bread, shortbread cookies, Christmas cake are perfect for eating and giving as gifts, especially when baked with love from scratch.

What do you try and do every year during the holiday season?

Hugs,

  1. I agree - there is nothing quite like a good old-fashioned Christmas and how I would love to see The Nutcracker ballet again. A hot chocolate party sounds like a good idea too. Mulled wine and home-made mince pies is one of our favourite treats!

  2. This is the time of year my family gets to eat all the carbs they haven't been able to - French bread, cornbread dressing, gravy, and mashed potatoes. We also make sure to participate in the many area gift giving programs to the needy. It keeps us focused on others and to remind us how very blessed we are. I always watch the original version of Miracle on 34th Street, but I like the remake, too! I have more Christmas DVDs from the 40's and 50's than I do modern ones. So fun!

  3. Dearest Celia,
At least we got already our tickets for the Nutcracker performance at our local theater!
The original 1947 version of course is an excellent choice as well.
Hugs to you all and stay cozy dear friend!

  4. Beautiful Christmas inspiration, mon ami!! Bella and I always attended the Nutcracker Ballet and Fairy Tea Party each season when she was younger. It was so special! I love all of the classic movies and cartoons also. Christmas is my favourite holiday and I try to make each year special for my family and create many wonderful memories.

  5. Why so hectic? Do we always need to do something? Why can't we indulge in relaxing time?

  7. Love all of these! We usually try to get to the local Xmas parade but missed it this year due to a death in my husband's family. I also like to get downtown to Queen St. to see the windows!
