The Luxury of Time in the City ...

As long time readers/followers of HHL know, over the past few months I have been spending less time at the country home and a little more time at the city home. One of the luxuries I love about being in the city is TIME and all the things you can accomplish in just a couple of hours vs being in the country.
The hot sun and humidity of summer takes a toll on curly hair (leaving very little options for styling: curly, up in bun, frizz - repeat) - with the calender turning to September and the temps cooling (bye, bye humidity) it was time visit Fiorio, in Yorkville, for some damage control and a much long awaited blow out. Since being in the city more often over the past year or so - Fiorio has become my go to salon for taking care of my natural curly hair. Mark is my go to guy for colour ; Daniel for my cuts and styling; and Sunny for my blow outs - she is amazing with the blow dryer taming my curls brilliantly!

Another fabulous thing about being in the city is that you are able to meet up with friends at a moments notice. And yet another is that you can actually wear the clothes you have hanging in your closet and your heels are saying HELLO!!! remember me???

Watch - Cartier; bracelets - Pandora; Hermes; and gold bracelet from Europe; Ring - costume pearl and crystals.

Shoes - Manolo Blahnik

Tote- Louis Vuitton

sunglasses - Roberto Cavalli ; pants - Elie Tahari; blouse - DKNYC

Within  just over THREE hours I had my hair done; caught up with a friend over lunch; picked up some groceries from Whole Foods and was on my way back to the city home. If I was in the country - the time to drive in and then get back - I would only have been able to accomplish ONE of these things and it would have taken the whole day.

Do you live where you work, play? in the countryside or the city?
Is everything close by or do you have to commute to various places?

Wishing you a luxuriously balanced life,

  1. Ah, I love city life and hope to retire to NYC. You look gorgeous with your smooth silky hair (a fellow curly girl here : > ) Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday.

  2. Oh, you live two lives then: one in the city and the other in the countryside... and I bet you would not want to give up either one of them but love the chance to alternate between them. I know, I share my time between two homes in two different countries... and I love it. But now I've been spending a few weeks in one place and I'm missing my other home so badly... And I do get the frizzy hair thing, too: I've hated my curly hair most of my life...

  3. Celia, being a new follower, I'm glad to hear your back from a much needed break. To answer your question, live in a most incredible little city which is just 5 to 10 minutes within the airport, major shopping districts, great restaurants, biking routes, paths for running and walking and then only 30 minutes to great lakes for boating and mountains for skiing. Yes, I feel quite blessed. But I'm still in awe that you have three different stylist for your hair, which by the way, is simply beautiful.

  6. I have the best of both worlds, for me. We live in a town of 50,000 near the ocean (2 blocks from our house) and lots of parks and wild lands, plus restaurants, Whole Foods, etc.

  7. Dearest Celia,
For that reason alone we at times stay for a couple of days in Atlanta. If I have to drive all the way from Dublin, which is in the heart of Georgia, it does take me all day and you have to RUN. No relaxing and no time for a visit or any pampering... For that reason, yes, I love the city!
You look gorgeous with your hair just styled to perfection and your entire outfit. It hurts me to know that soon we will have to say goodbye to bare arms for quite a while. Love the feel and also the look with a little sun-tan, never too much for considering the rapid aging it will cause for our skin.
We did have a lovely time in Arizona, very active and quiet too, mainly in nature and that is always soothing.
Sending you hugs and love from Georgia,
    Mariette

  8. You look marvehlous darlink!! I live no-where. It takes 15 minutes to a grocery store via interstate so that's not too bad but it takes an hour to get to one minor metropolis and over 2 hours for a major city so needless to say I MISS city things very much. Then again, if the trade-off is Alpha Hubby, I guess I can live with cows, Schwans, UPS, peacefulness, and Amazon.com. I can HIGHLY recommend a good organic coconut oil (tropicaltraditions.com who have a bottle specifically for hair). You will be amazed how it tames curly-frizzy hair so beautifully. Or any brand organic coconut oil - so good for your hair. One curly haired friend said it was a miracle potion (smile).

  9. Great accessories, and your hair looks great. The coral color is also lovely on you. I have to wear my long hair up mostly in the summer, as it just goes back to poker straight and flat, especially with NC humidity. Nice meeting you

  10. Must be fun to have two places to live in...
you can just leave when you start o get bored in one place,
different place, different moods, different ambiance,
and different lifestyle... I think I'd enjoy that.
