New York ... a week-end in photos

Hello everyone ! This past week-end I had the opportunity to be in the city that doesn't sleep ...
NEW YORK!! (click on images to enlarge)

I have not been to New York since my accident in 2006 and WOW ... it's just as magical and full of energy as I remember it. Everywhere you look there is something going on - day and night. And can you saw HOT, the temps were incredible!!!

Of course New York has some of the best shopping ... I may have had to get something at Tiffany, but that's for another post.

... and whether it's day or night, in the city core or in the park; New Yorker's are wonderfully dressed.

On one of our walks about the city we spotted Mario Lopez, casually walking down the street. I had the opportunity to say hello to him. Ladies he is as cute, polite and soft spoken- kinda shy actually - as he comes across on TV. I really wanted to ask for a photo with him, but he was on the phone ~ and I felt I had interrupted his conversation enough.

There was a Yoga Expo going on over the week-end. And in New York style, what better place than Time Square to gather a LARGE group of yogis. Despite all the the commotion that was happening around the square, with all the positive energy ... there was a calmness that filled the air.

This was Mr. G's favourite store. There was M&M everything inside there...

We made our way on the Metro ~ E ~ down to the recently opened memorial. The museum was still under construction - but the wonderful staff throughout the park area are amazing. Answering question after question from anyone who asks.
When we left the memorial park ~ we passed the Fire Hall that is just steps away; and had the honour of meeting and speaking with one of the many brave souls who was on duty during the darkest day of New York and really North America.

Central Park is like stepping into another world. An escape from the chaos that is the city. So much to see, so much to do or not, the choice is yours. People watching in the park is fabulous...

For our afternoon in the park with our dear friend Victoria (who lives between her home in New York and Vermont) we decided that ...

Magnolia* cupcakes had to accompany us ... while I chose the coconut  all ready to go, Ms. Victoria and Mr. G. decided they "NEEDED" a chocolate cupcake with lavender icing. Of course the great staff at Magnolia's was more than happy to oblige and in seconds 2 custom cupcakes were ready to join us in the park.

Well knowing that Laduree had opened shop in NYC ~ I "NEEDED" a macaron or two. The shop is not like in France, where you can sit and enjoy a patisserie and cup of tea, It's a pick- up -and -go*. So not the same - but the macarons are flown in from Paris daily - and are just as yummy.

Ms. Victoria was prepared with wine to enjoy with our sweets ... a fabulous 2002 Chateau Lys De Bardoult, it was amazing!! Merci mon ami... You may be wondering where the cupcakes are...

Oh they made it to the park ... but Magnolia sells it's icing in a small bucket (SERIOUSLY)... so who needs the cupcake when you can eat the topping! It's that good and addictive (you have been warned).

Thank goodness for sitting areas like this one in Herald Square ... it's definitely tiring walking about New York ... But think about all the exercise one gets!!!

* Magnolia's has various locations now, throughout Manhattan ~ we pop in to one of the new locations. But if you can get down to the village ~ go and experience the original location. I also was told that Laduree is planning to open a sit down location like in Paris in the village ~ fingers crossed.

I hope you enjoyed looking back at my week-end in New York City...
Happy week-end everyone...

  2. Dearest Celia,
You would have lost me at Bergdorf Goodman and at Tiffany & Co... What a lovely virtual visit you created for all of us. Beautiful photos and you had quite some interaction in NYC. It is decades ago since I was there at the end of the 80s. Our wedding bands come from there; that is the replacement wedding bands as they got stolen in Pennsylvania.
So glad you had a great time with Victoria together in the park and everywhere else. Oh, those sit-down stores for coffee or tea are so Old Worldly. But who knows? Never give up hope.
    Hugs to you,
    Mariette
