Spring Time in the City ...

I had the opportunity to spend last week at our home in the city. And as much as I enjoy the peacefulness and openness of our country home, there is certainly something about spring time in city; the energy is indescribable.
One of my favourite places in the city is Yorkville ... the playground of of my 30s. On week-ends one can barely see the rock (this was mid week) for all the people enjoying the sunshine and warmth.

Everywhere .... the signs of spring and people seem to have an extra bounce in their step.

A couple of my my must stop at shops ...

These furry models are posing pawsitively adorable.....

No day in the city is complete without stopping for lunch. And I just had to try out this new restaurant ... with a name like C House Lounge Cafe ~ Milano , how could one pass this by? I had the open face gorgonzola chicken sandwich ... YUM!! I noticed on the menu they also do an afternoon tea, so I'll definitely be back!!

Of course my trip to the city was not just about people watching, enjoying great food, going out with friends - there was some work too. I had to meet with the contractors who are updating the house after being tenant (and some what lacking TLC) for the past 5 years and do some much needed work in the gardens (tenants pulled up all the perennial plants in their efforts to garden three years ago) ... Yes , I cried .

Dolce and Gabbana came along to the city. Here I'm sure they are saying to themselves
"She calls this a yard?" as they look about ...

"This is nothing, compared to our gardens in the country" ... as they survey the postage stamp size yard.

Some tulips that I managed to get in last autumn are starting to bloom ...

Here I've added some peonies and other small plants to the flower box. Behind the peonies are some echinacea that I planted last July/August - which are also coming back. Can't wait to see this garden come back to life, like when this home was my full-time home ... it seems so long ago.

Life in the city can be exhausting ... even for furbabies!!!

Do you prefer city or country living?
And do you enjoy a week-end escape to the  other?

  1. Lovely photos, especially those of D&G, they're super cute! I think I prefer country living, though in my neck of the woods country is really desert, but that's ok, I like the space. wouldn't mind a weekend in the city though, not LA mind you, but any east coast city would be fun!

  5. Aaaah, Yorkville. Yes, yes. The lunch looks so good.
I have to say, the older I get, the more I enjoy the country. Wow, can't believe I'm saying that. That said, I still really enjoy getting into the city, shopping, especially in that area!

  9. Dearest Celia,
Oh, what a lovely posting; too bad the pawsitively fur model photo did not load. You are so right about the differences but yes, I do enjoy weekends or short visits to the city. We can't live without; they do energize us and we can stock up on everything that's not available to the country.
Too bad that all perennials got pulled up. We know that feeling, one year the painters cut off our jasmine vines (yes, just above ground...). It makes you want to cry and also get at their throat for the years of cultivation in vain.
That's life; we have to let go and hopefully you still have fond photos as a memory.
Hugs to you both and your fur babies!
