A Little About the girl behind High Heeled Life ...(moi)

I really am humbled when my little corner of BlogLand is recognized by a fellow BlogLand friend. Though I usually decline to participate (it can become most time consuming to do all the things that is sometimes required in accepting an award). But, this one provided the opportunity to share with readers a little something about me that they may not already know (especially if they are new readers). So thank you Jessica for awarding High Heeled Life the Very Inspiring Blogger award.

If you have not been over to The Entertaining House, what are you waiting for? Jessica is a brilliant writer and photographer; successful entrepreneur and loving mother. You can learned a little more about Jessica Here.

Now,  7 things you may not already know about me:

1)  One of my favourite movies is Under the Tuscan Sun ... I can (and have) watched this movie many times. I love the underlying message. That we all get exactly what we ask for - perhaps not in the way we "want" or expected it , but in the the way we need it and when we are ready. I love this clip! Under The Tuscan Sun - Ladybugs - clip.

2) As much as I love living in North America, I hope to one day return to living in Europe if not full-time , at least for a few months out of the year, living in the countryside. My choices - in no particular order France, Italy, Portugal.

3) I traveled to Thailand, Hong Kong, Macau and Seoul Korea with friends in my mid twenties. I was never interested in visiting Asia - but when my friends (whose parents live in Hong Kong) suggested I join them, it was an opportunity to see countries I otherwise would not have seen. So happy that I went, it was a fabulous trip!

4) Despite spending summers close to some of the best beaches in the world (Algarve), during my childhood, I have not learned to swim.

5) I have an artificial right elbow. ~  I was not able to touch my face with my right hand for almost 1 1/2 years after my accident. The elbow had been completely shattered and was fused in a handshake position. I went through horrific pain as Rehab Therapists tried (without success) to get movement from it. When I was finally able to see the specialist - he was amused that anyone had tried as it was FUSED - there was nothing there - it had been shattered beyond repair.

The specialist further informed me that I would never have use of my elbow again. When I inquired about a replacement elbow ... he informed me I was too young to be considered. Long story short he referred me to a colleague at Sunnybrook , who agreed to do the replacement. I still do not have full use of my elbow/arm, nor pronation or supination (turning of wrist and forearm) on the right arm  due to numerous plates and screws required to repair the multiple breaks in the forearm.

You will find a post here on my elbow.

6) I am outgoing and friendly but very much an introvert too! This is a huge departure from my High Heeled Life days in the city when outgoing, friendly, adventurous, social - very much an extrovert would have described me. I have always been comfortable with my own company - but these I prefer it so much more.

7) I Can't change the past .... I don't Know if tomorrow will come .... I live for the moments that make up today!

There you have it ... a little about me, you may not have known.

Now I will pass the key board to all High Heeled Life readers who may wish to share a little about themselves.

If you decide to share, please feel free to grab the above award. And if you do, drop me an email (fallingoffahighheeledlife@gmail.com) with the link to your post and I will be happy to add it here.

Jessica, thank you. You are one of the most inspiring ladies I have had the pleasure of getting to know in BlogLand. I always look forward to reading your posts.

These fabulous people are also sharing a little about themselves ~ pop on over for a visit and perhaps make a new BlogLand friend.

  1. Dearest Celia,
Congrats with this award and yes, you DESERVE IT!!!
Thanks for sharing about your past! Did not realize you are a non-swimmer. That did surprise me, knowing you were quite a sports lady in your younger years before the accident. Not in your younger years afer... Ha-ha the spirit can remain forever young and strong. You are one living example of that. You did some great travel in Asia. We've both been to Hong-Kong as well but never to Korea. Pieter did visit Thailand and I've only been in Bangkok at the airport en route to Jakarta.
Sending you lots of love from both of us. Had a very pleasant conversation with Mom today. She's happy and I'd called the dialysis center and arranged certain things for her. Surprises for this week... One's arms can cross the Ocean; if willing to!

  2. What a beautiful post. I'm so glad I came back and read this one. We have a lot in common...we like a lot of the same things. Under the Tuscan Sun is one of my all time favorite movies, too and I dream of visiting Italy some day. I love the quotes you've used and will write some of them in my journal tonight. It's so nice to get to know you better. Sweet Southern hugs, Diane

  6. ok, put this on your to do list..........learn to swim!!!! you will never regret it. you were keeping that little secret to yourself just so your 'ranting pool friend' didn't get on your back. Listen, if for nothing else C, for safety sake. What if you saw a kiddo in trouble in the water, i KNOW you would want to do something about it Miss. Plus, there is nothing quite like the feel of water surrounding your entire body and swimming through it. i'm not sure i remember a time when i couldn't swim. I think the first thing my dad taught me was to float and I still do it every time i hit the pool and have taught many kids to do the same.

it's always nice getting to know something more about you.

With that artificial elbow, you are now and will always be the Amazing Bionic Woman- don't yuou hate it when people tell you that you can't do something. You've come so far!!!

    enjoy each day my friend

  8. This was a wonderful, wonderful post. I loved learning more about you. My fave movie is a toss up between Ladyhawke and Princess Bride. Then about 20 million others after those 2! Love every quote on this blog - I want to live more and more "in the moment" with more joy and less fretting!

  10. I know your recovery has been brutal and on going. I know that you have had many down days as well as many blessed days. I just wanted to let you know how happy I am that you are finding and creating your beauty around you.
When they talk about "joy comes in the morning" its hard to see how it will at times but it always does.
Thank you for sharing your inspiring tale.
