Putting My Best Face Forward - Part 3 - Make-up Chanel

I have been a big fan of Chanel cosmetics since introduced to the line by a friend almost 20 years ago. Once I tried the blush I was hooked! No matter how often I used it it seemed endless - Unlike the drugstore brands I was use to - that ended up with a gaping worn hole in the centre and then floating pieces as it broke completely.  I was told it was the raised bubble like design that help distribute the product onto the brush unified and easily. Whatever it was I was happy, it cost almost three times what I was paying for the drugstore brand (at that time) - but it lasted six times longer so well worth the initial investment. And did I mention the beautiful compact!!

I remember saving up to try other products in the line. Some like the Chanel Le Crayon Khol also became a staple in my cosmetic bag. It's soft texture glides smoothly to line the inside of the lower lid or to outline the eye. And I loved that it came with its own sharpener. Throughout the years there have been times when only Chanel products would be found in my cosmetic bag and other times they ruled but other products also captured my attention. So as I embark on the journey to up my look - I'm returning to Chanel for a refresher and to re-discover the line again.

Chanel - Products Used

Skincare products used: Eau Douceur - Cleansing Water; Hydra Beauty Lotion - hydration protection radiance - moist; Hydra Beauty Serum; Le Lift - Creme Fine; Le Lift Creme Yeux

214 TISSÉ MADEMOISELLE - eye shadow (my choice)
Cosmetics used: CC sunscreen broad spectrum SPF30;  ÉCLAT LUMIÈRE - highlighter face pen; BASE OMBRE À PAUPIÈRES - professional eye shadow base; LES 4 OMBRES - Multi-Effect Quadra Eye Shadow; STYLO YEUX - Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner; LES BEIGES - Healthy Glow Sheer Colour SPF 15; LE VOLUME DE CHANEL - Mascara; JOUES CONTRASTE - Powder Blush; ROUGE COCO SHINE - Hydrating Sheer Lipshine; LE CRAYON LÈVRES - Precision Lip Definer
I was fortunate the week I went in to book an appointment was also the week Chanel National make-up artists were going to be at Holt Renfrew Chanel cosmetic counter (can you say serendipity). Rachel the Beauty Advisor for HR Chanel scored me an appointment with Jen.

Jen's Tips
  • For more natural looking brows use the side of brow pencil and brush with spooly (a clean/recycled mascara wand)
  • Eye shadow primer apply it all over eye to under brow arch
  • Invest in your brushes - use brushes
  • Apply concealer to the orbital bone (under eye area)
  • To avoid the apple cheek look - follow natural contour of cheek bone and lightly along hairline just above the arch of brow
  • Apply lip colour first - applying liner last seals colour in

LES 4 OMBRES  - Spring 2015 eyes shadow collection is breath taking -
the above were a couple Jen had also suggested for me : left side - 238 Tisse Paris  right side - 236 Tisse Fantaisie. I choose the 214 Tisse Mademoiselle (see photo next to CC cream above)

Thank you Jen for a wonderful experience! and all the great tips you shared. Rachel thank you for taking the photos.

Jen is part of the Chanel National group and not always at Holt's - but Rachel is equally amazing at creating magic and bringing out your natural beauty. Rachel is my go to gal. She is warm, friendly with a very skilled hand and has to most amazing accent. In March I will be sharing a make-over that Rachel did on a friend of mine. Also coming in March a peek at the spring lipstick colours.

  1. I adore Chanel. Almost everything on my makeup counter is Chanel, especially my brushes. I love the travel palettes because I can try several things at once and only have one thing to toss in my purse to have it all at hand! I've tried other brands but tend to stick with Chanel. I have a couple of MAC lipsticks that are great but I don't change my colours for the season like I used to. I play with lipstick! I'm loving these posts, so much! You look so beautiful and at peace (i.e., less stress)!

  4. Chanel, as you say Celia, expensive, however it all lasts longer and so the quality is well worth it!!

  5. Dearest Celia, (sorry for the previous mistake of writing Susan)...
Wow, you look absolutely stunning and of course, so does Jen! One can tell she loves what she is doing and that makes all the difference.
Yes, Chanel is for decades also my favorite makeup and you are so right about their blush lasting and lasting.
In Hawaii, while on vacation we did invest in the entire collection of Chanel brushes, bought at Neiman Marcus and that is one of the very best investments made. I even had kind of a double set at time for my always pre-packed travel toilet bag; also a Chanel find. Nail polish, like Susan already mentioned here above, is my absolute favorite!
Glad you were able to get this special makeup artist from Chanel National! You look really at your very best and I'm so happy for you.
Sending you blessings and hope you stay warm and healthy. Here we live through rains that last forever and it's cold too.
From a sunny Friday we send both of you hugs!
    Mariette
