Welcome !!!I'm so happy you stopped by for Afternoon Tea!
Afternoon Tea originated in England during the 1840s , as a way to fill the gap between a luncheon eaten usually around mid-day and dinner which was served around 8:00 p.m. or later.
The Duchess of Bedford (Anna ~ a lady-in-waiting to Queen Victoria), is credited with creating the "Afternoon Tea" ritual in the 1840's. It is said the Duchess disliked the "sinking" feeling she experienced in the afternoons and requested her maidservant prepare a tray of tea and small sandwiches or pastries to be brought to her boudoir.
This method of relieving the "sinking" feeling became the highlight of her day, one she started to share with friends. Eventually moving it from her boudoir to the parlor where her guests were treated to a wonderful array of tea, sandwiches, scones, pastries and cakes. Thus the ritual of Afternoon Tea was born!
