I'm Still Breathing ...

When you find yourself between the person YOU knew and the one YOU are getting know,

breathing is one of the most painful things to do!

This my friends is where I have found myself these past few months.

As I venture down the road of accepting I'm no longer the person I was and not quite the person I WILL BE!

One must EXHALE the past in order to be able to INHALE the FUTURE!

I cannot begin to tell you how many times I find myself saying the Serenity prayer...

So, I am starting to change what I can and leaving everything else in HIS hands.

You may have noticed some changes going on here at my BlogLand Home, "Falling Off a" is no longer part of the title ~ No, I'm not back in heels ..lol... falling implies a negative ... and to move forward, I must think positive. Since, we decided to start spending time at our city home, when I have medical appointments in the city and we live at our country home, High Heeled Life & the Country, seemed to be a perfect fit!

The images surrounding the actual header, represent parts of the new ME and Life, I am creating. This will also give me a little reminder to focus my writing and posts on country living, simplifying life, things that add so much to my life like ~ taking time for tea; handwriting; reading; living in the moment; and things that I thought I knew about - but are re-learning~ and surviving & thriving through a Life in Transition.

Don't worry, I'm not going to forget the detour and the journey that brought me to where I am today. Once Upon A Time series will return, though it is difficult to write at times, I know that it helps, not only those who are facing similar challenges, but most important it helps their loved ones ~ understand the challenges they are facing [especially if they are unable to tell the loved ones themselves].

BlogLand Pen Pals ~ Is also changing name ... It is now BlogLand Pen Friends, there will me more about BlogLand Pen Friends and it's new button to come later this month.

I came to know of Melynda aka Craziness Abounds who writes a great blog Crazy World, through my dear friend Carol author of the blog Facing 50 with Humour. Melynda has been losing her sight. She has undergone various treatments to try and retain her remaining [failing] eyesight. Despite this detour in her life, her spirit remains determined and positive.

Some of her dearest friends unbeknownst to her, have put together and published a book of her best blog posts. All proceeds of the book sale will be sent to Melynda so she can continue treatment and get some assistance to allow her to continue enjoying life. March 1st 2010 I sat in front of my computer screen frustrated as I tried to maneuver my way through menus that made no sense to me ~ Blogging was completely foreign to me. Not to mention [remembering] figuring out how to turn the computer on, was a huge accomplishment at that time, for me.
I remember thinking, this will get me out of doing scrap-booking as therapy and it's more interesting than other exercises I had been doing in speech therapy. And with that I clicked "POST".

As, I explored this new [to me] medium I discovered some blogs and noticed some had comments at the end of their posts. Mine,- nada, zero, zilch! But that was OK the blogs I had discovered where fancy, and spoke of fashion, fun, entertainment ~ these people had really exciting lives and things to write about. Mine, was dull and the topic certainly not interesting reading~ after all who wants to read about how someone no longer really enjoys life.

We were about to go on our first vacation since my accident (almost 4 years earlier) and I was thinking that I really had nothing to say, not to mention the time it was taking for me to actually write a post [that made sense]. I was actually thinking about giving up on blogging. Then, while away I received 2 comments that would change that and make me look at blogging as a way to help others deal with challenges, they or a loved one were facing. Barry and Sandy, I will be forever grateful that our paths crossed ... your words of encouragement on those comments gave be the strength to get a voice!

Two years ago I had no idea what Blogger or blogging was.

Today, I thank God and count my blessings for all the wonderful friends [you all know who you are] that the universe has sent my way via this thing called Blogging!!

Without your friendship, encouragement, and at times ~~butt kicking~~ emails AND most of all your great Posts that have gotten be out of from under the covers on some days [to see how each of you is doing], Because

I don't think I would be at the stage of recovery I am at, if it were not for some of you!

I'm still trying to figure out this blogging thing and what my voice really is here. But I hope along the way my writing [and I], has some how helped others; if with only a listening ear; a word of understanding or encouragement in a comment.

I am expecting to be back to regular posting and blog visits next week!

You may have noticed some subtle (and perhaps some not so subtle) changes taking place around here. You know how it goes, you are only thinking of changing one thing; then all of sudden that change inspires something else and before you know it you are looking at changing a whole lotta things!

Happy Valentine's Day Friends...

The origin of this holiday for the expression of love really isn't romantic at all -- at least not in the traditional sense. Valentine was a Roman Priest at a time when there was an emperor called Claudias who persecuted the church at that particular time. He also had an edict that prohibited the marriage of young people. This was based on the hypothesis that unmarried soldiers fought better than married soldiers because married soldiers might be afraid of what might happen to them, or their wives or families if they died.

Valentine secretly married them (young people) because of the edict. Valentine was eventually caught, imprisoned and tortured for performing marriage ceremonies against command of Emperor Claudius the second. There are legends surrounding Valentine's actions while in prison. One of the men who was to judge him in line with the Roman law at the time was a man called Asterius, who's daughter was blind. He (Valentine) was supposed to have prayed with and healed the young girl with such astonishing effect that Asterius himself became Christian as a result.

In the year 269 AD, Valentine was sentenced to a three part execution of a beating, stoning, and finally decapitation all because of his stand for Christian marriage. The story goes that the last words he wrote were in a note to Asterius' daughter. He inspired today's romantic missives by signing it, "from your Valentine."

Thank you for joining me for tea today! In celebration of Saint Valentine, I have prepared a heart felt tea of friendship for you.

Using the heart shaped place mats, for a foundation, I chose a tea set from the Bombay Company ~ pattern Poppy.

All special celebrations deserve a toast, so we will be toasting with 10 year old Tawny Porto, Royal Oporto produced in Portugal by Villa Nova de Gaia.

I think the butterfly and poppy are a perfect way to honour both Saint Valentine and friendship. Don't you just love the elegant handle?

A red velvet cupcake with butter cream white and pink frosting, is a perfect complement to the tea and port.

These teacups had me at first sight! The handle! The gold detail on the edge of cup and saucer and once again a gorgeous handle. The saucer is beautifully designed with the butterfly and poppy; did you notice how the saucer comes out a little where the designs are?

and look the teacup also has a small lip... and the thumb rest is done in gold.

Your place setting awaits your arrival...

Today's tea is from Angelina's in Paris, France. Thé Angelina is a combination of oolong from China,exotic fruits and citrus, mango pieces, petals of marigold and safflower.

There will be many roses about today ... so a little different, a lily (Peruvian lilies, or alstroemeria, represent friendship and devotion) ! I love it's trumpet shape.

Tea is poured ....

It's a celebration of Saint Valentine, How can you resist this scrumptious delight!!! Red velvet , with creamy butter cream frosting.....

HA! I knew you couldn't let it go without at least one bite....

Week~end Dreaming ...

The weather has certainly been unpredictable so far this season. Usually by now we are knee deep ~ OK ankle deep, in the white fluffy snow. This year despite being bitter cold one day (way below freezing) the next day will be an almost 20 degree difference, above zero.

I would be most content if the weather would accommodate wearing this!

But, this morning we woke to a blanket of white snow, where grass should be. Not to mention the brisk cold wind... I will be staying inside and perhaps doing some of this:

Afternoon Setting for Two

A couple of weeks ago we were graced with some winter snow (which has been MIA for the most part this winter). It was bitter cold outside, so the Mr. and I decided to curl up on the sofa for an afternoon of movies; reading and just relaxing.

We brought out the breakfast tray to ensemble our afternoon treats. Since it's the month of Romance (though who needs to wait for February to enjoy a little Romance);

we topped the breakfast tray with heart shaped place mats;

the tableware pieces, have French romantic sayings which was perfect...

I had some left over XO pieces from the cards we did for our God children, so a little sprinkling of XOs

Originally we were going to make some hot chocolate and decided to use the made in Japan chocolat chaud set. There's a romantic scene of a couple with a musician playing in the background. The petite chocolate cups also have the trio on one side and the back is lovely gold detail.

The back of the cup was hard to capture ... but it looks the same as the teapot. Imagine back when chocolat chaud was served in such hand painted lovelies.

Instead of sweets ... we decided on some fresh figs, cheeries and rye toast topped with butter and rose jam.

Chocolat chaud just didn't seem quite right with these delights....

Tea was made ... and instead of replacing the lovely chocolate set ..we drank from the petite cups.

How Important Are You?

Though I don't work, all the therapy appointments and things that I need to do (on a daily and weekly basis) in order to keep my body and mind functioning, is equivalent to a full time job . Over the past 5 years I have been so determined to get better that I've forgotten about ME. At times going from one therapy appointment to the next without stopping for proper healthy meals ~ the focus has been on getting all the appointments in before the day's energy supply is exhausted. Sometimes by the time I get home all I want is to lay down, not move and the thought of eating is far from my thoughts ~ partially because it will be tomorrow before I remember that I really didn't eat. When did I become so unimportant?

Some of you may be saying/thinking "your therapy and things to keep your body and mind going are for you!" Yes, you are correct but just like when I was working in the corporate world, so I could enjoy my high heeled life ~ the mind and body still needed time to renew, heal and create reserves of energy and peace. Something that even with all the long hours I still managed to do, back then.

"So what's different" you ask?

Well, much like women with many roles and responsibilities ~ wife, parent, sibling, child, friend and career worker spending their days catering to the needs of others at the expense of their own well being. I have come to realize on this road to recovery that I have let others dictate appointments, sessions and activities according to what works best for them, and not what is best for me. Too caught up in the Doing ~worried how a long time between appointments would look; not wanting to be labeled as difficult or not-interested in getting better, I forgot how to be. I fell prey to NOT BEING IMPORTANT, after all everyone else was scheduling according to what was best for them.

Does some of the above (perhaps for different reasons) sound familiar? Do you feel frustrated, tired, overwhelmed and a bit off balance? Well it's time to take back your life!

Here are some of my ideas for ME TIME?

Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day

that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson and Albert Einstein. ~ H. Jackson Brown

20 minutes.... (even if you start with one day a week ...and gradually add a day)

Start reading that book that has been staring at you from your night table, since Christmas 2005....

Tune the world out with a relaxing warm bath ... a head set will help keep outside noise away

(for those with small children or hubbies who always can't find something - LOCK THE DOOR)

Just sit and enjoy a cup of tea or your favorite warm soothing beverage

Write in your journal ... goals, plans, just write

Meditate ... using soft music or a CD with directed meditation

Tea Room In the City ...

Living in the country and having a birthday 6 days before Christmas makes planning a get-together with friends almost next to impossible any time near the actual date. So when one of my girl friends suggested that we start an annual Girls Tea in the City to celebrate Christmas and my BDAY!! I was over the moon delighted.

The tea room is among the finest in the city ...

If you live or visit the GTA , you might guess where we went!!!

They offer two sitting areas; a traditional side with cream and white furnishings more of the Victorian era, and a modern side with dark and light purples accented by white ceiling and trim.

It was Christmas time....the contrast of the red and light purple was so beautiful...

The chandelier, is breath taking. This room also has a fireplace and is quite grande and glamorous!

Did you guess the WINDSOR ARMS ?

No matter how many times we take tea at the WA, Ms. J always discovers something fascinating!

Ms. L ~ just mention food, tea, and champagne and her face lights up!!

Moi ... enjoying the peacefulness before the room comes alive with the chitty chatter of the other guests. The Tea Room is booked solid with reservations during normal afternoon tea, add in Christmas season and the chances of getting a last minute seating almost a dream. Despite the higher noise level of happy Christmas shoppers, I am happy to be enjoying time in the city with my wonderful and thoughtful besties...

Now on with our tea...

How lovely is this tea pot ... all deck out in gorgeous roses..

I tried to get a photo of tea cup ... sorry for the quality ... I even took a photo of the bottom, sadly it didn't turn out at all ~ and I can't recall the maker.

There were plenty of yummy goodies to keep our taste buds tingle with delight,

another tea pot decked out in pink roses makes an appearance on our table....

and here is a white one with a collar trimmed in blue. I love when tea rooms use different tea pots and tea cups [instead of the same style cup and tea pot for everyone], it takes me back in history to when tea was starting to make its mark on the world. The average person could barely afford the tea let alone a set of matching tea cups. But that did not stop them from enjoying and hosting afternoon tea. Guests would just bring their own tea cup.

Thank you Ms. L and Ms. J for making my birthday celebration extra special!! and I can't wait to celebrate Girls Tea in the City 2012...

Front Door Romance

While the outside of our country home remains under upgrading (we took down the siding which we did not like ~ but remain undecided on stone, stucco or bead and board,) one place that I am able to add some touches to is our front entrance - will actually the door.

Christmas provides the greatest opportunity to liven up the entrance. But between Christmas and Easter is a long time. So, this year I have decided to add a little Romance to our entrance instead of leaving it bare.

Here is the entrance, ready to greet our guests during Christmas....

And here it is ready to greet our guests during the month of Romance...

I've kept the cedar garland and changed the Christmas wreaths for hearts.

I've also kept the greenery in the urns ... but removed the Christmas birds, balls and the pine cones from the red bows on the sides. (yup... there is what the outside walls look like tie-back - I think that's what that is called).

Added some hearts on a strand..... kept in a couple of the gold touches ...

and stuck in two hearts and an XOXO using very tiny dowels.

There you have it ... Happy Romance Day!

I was tagged by Halle of Classic Glam. Halle is new to Blogland, but if her first few posts are a taste of what she will be writing and sharing ... you will definitely want to be following her for fashion, interior design and at home spa remedies.

2. What is the main idea of your blog?

Originally when I started blogging in March 2010 ~ it was an outlet to help re-develop my writing, focus, memory and interacting skills in conjunction with my Speech Therapy (post accident). As I travel down the road of this detour in my life, it's starting to evolve into creating a Me and Life that better fit together.

3. What are your top 3 places to shop?

Through blogging I have meant some wonderful friends who are not only bloggers but wonderful artisans and purveyors of things from simpler times [something that I find most appealing ~ like antique/vintage china; silver etc.] ~ ETSY and Blogger Boutiques

from street vendors to designer boutiques to the fabulous pastry and chocolate shops...

4. If you got $500 what would you spend it on?

I would buy chocolates and cards; donate them to the local Women's shelter, so that the women and children they help would know that someone is thinking of them and wishing them a Happy Valentine's day.

5. Flats or heels?

I am definitely a Heels gal heart and soul (if you see my shoe shelves they are still filled with heels) but, I'm slowly accepting that flats are in my future [my reality now]

6. Favorite color (be specific!)?

This is a tough one... I have been gravitating towards softer colours ... robin's egg blue ~ is definitely my go to colour at the moment for an accent colour in our home. For clothing earth tones (creams, tans, taupe, brown)

7. Favorite blogger of the moment and why?

WOW ... it's difficult to narrow it down to just one. There are so many wonderful wonderful ladies whom I admire for so many different reasons. As I read this question ~ a dozen names all entered my head. But rules are rules ... so

Carol from Facing 50 with Humour ~ even on my darker days, reading one of her posts ~ will soften a smile on my face ... and make my day a little brighter. When she was recently held hostage (not literally) without any internet access, = no posts, I found myself going back and reading some older posts. Even the second time around they managed to make me smile.

8. One of the goals you have for your blog?

I would love for my blog to become a great spot for people to find inspiration, motivation and be helpful to those facing transition(s) in life.

To me Sisterhood is any group of women who desire to make a difference and make the world a better place. I am thrilled to be part of Blogging Sisters, found by Mary of Hope-Filled Living. Participants commit to a year of keeping their Blogging Sister in their prayers and let them know they are thought of throughout the year with notes, cards and leaving positive, encouraging messages on their blog (if they have one). Mary, being the creative soul she is, added a little twist ~ You see, each participant knows who the Blogging Sister is that they have committed to BUT the fun part is ~ You do not know who your own Blogging Sister is, Mary will reveal her identity at the end of the year.

This week I received my first surprise from my Blogging Sister. No return address, to help identity her she may be (she is sticky to the rules ... and for that I already love her!!) Though the stamp and it's origin reveals a little. I'm going to refrain from any detective work, that may indicate whom she is. After all I want to have a surprise at the end of the year too! Your wonderful surprise arrived in perfect timing. It has been a bit of a challenging week, and when Mr. G announced a large envelope had arrived ~ I had no idea, it would be from you. The moment I opened it ... a smile appeared across my face. Not only for your sweet card, but the thoughtful additions. You did some homework :) ...

This pen with it's butterflies ... to me [butterflies] signify strength, faith and transition. The butterfly goes through so many changes in such a short time in its life. Emerging as one of God's creatures that gives so much back to the world with its presence. I ~~hope~~ KNOW, that one day I too will emerge from this detour in life and be a helping presence to others. Dearest Blogging Sister that you chose a Butterfly pen ... is most priceless to me. I feel like the Angels are speaking and saying ... "Yes you will emerge! and you will write!"

I will be using my pen each evening as I update my prayer book with people I ask God and his Angels to look after. And evening I know that someone is saying a prayer for me ~ just by looking at my pen. What a wonderful end to a day, before drifting off to sleep.

But what happens when there were no conscientious, caring parents? When a young girl is abused ... or prostituted ... by her parents? When she's taught that her only value is as a sexual object? How can she possibly understand what true love is?

That is the reality for most of the girls at Hope Unlimited for Children. The concept of dating and marriage, love and family, evoke feelings of confusion and guilt and fear. But their story doesn't have to end there ...

In Brazil, the Day of Love is in early Summer. On that day, surrounded by godly women who love them, the girls at Hope Unlimited are taught about true love and purity and what it means to be of value as one of God's highest creations ... and loved by their Creator. As part of their celebration, each girl receives Valentines that show them they are special. Valentines that come from people who took time to make a few extra Valentines for someone they don't know. People like you and me. It's a very small act that has a huge impact on the way young girls think of themselves ... and how they face the future.

If you'd like to join me in making Valentines for the girls of Hope, you can be certain you'll bring happy smiles and growing confidence into a young girl's life. It can be as simple as making a couple of extras when you write Valentines to your loved ones ... or you can make an "event" out of it and involve your Sunday School class, ladies Bible study group, mission group, civic organization, Girl Scout troop, sports team ... parents of daughters.

February Tea Trolley

Welcome to all my Afternoon Tea friends and special welcome to all the new friends who have visited; left wonderful comments and are now following Falling Off A High Heeled Life!!

While it's cold outside and the gardens are still covered in a blanket of white snow; it's wonderful to be into February. With the arrival of February also comes the colourful displays of flowers at our local markets. Potted tulips, daffodils , join the fresh cut-flowers with a promise that spring is getting closer.

A new month means the tea trolley in my writing area also changes.

February being the month most celebrated by love I've decided to stay with the reds.

How lovely are these?

Paris is known world wide as the city of romance and love, so I added a little memento of my trip last year with an Eiffel Tower souvenir. A view from above.

And a view from the ground....

Our teacup sits proudly on top of Shakespeare & Love Sonnets book and below that Emily Dickinson Poems. These are both perfect for curling up with a cup of tea during a cold winter's afternoon. Shakespeare's sonnets are some of the finest and most graceful expressions of love and devotion to come from the Elizabethan age.

The teapot I have chosen for the trolley this month is a plain white one. But don't let it's simplicity deceive you. Did you notice ... wait there is something missing!!!

Ahh .. there it is ... Did you notice what was missing? How could one not have chocolates during this wonderful month of love!!!

Ok .. now that we have chocolates; flowers; a symbol of the most romantic city; some wonderful reading material to inspire us in dreams of love; a pot of tea brewing... we can get back to our teacup. This little darling comes to us all the way from Poland. I love the raised white detail that wraps around the cup and saucer. The rose buds really are a wonderful sight ...during these cold, dark days of winter. The bottom of the teacup is stamped with WALBRZYCH made in Poland.

What's that? You want to see the teapot again? ... sure...

Here it is ... I love the design of the handle ... the scalloped base, the detail around the opening of the pot and the overall shape of the body. Looks like the tea is ready ...

Oh .. you noticed the cookies!

Reflexology and Chakras for Balanced Health...

It's hard to believe in just a couple of days we will be saying good-bye to January 2012... Wow time certainly is flying by. As 2011 came to an end you reflected on the year ... did you make any resolutions? Plans? Goals? for 2012.

If you read my post HAPPY NEW YEAR.... What Are Your 2012 Plans? you already know, like many people I wrote out some plans that I have for creating Me and my life ~ moving forward. Looking back over January I have started taking action of my plans:

Embrace Country Living ~ I researched and discovered a fun activity to do with a couple of girlfriends HERE in the country you can read it here.

Make a Difference in the Life of a Child ~ we had Miss M. (God Daughter), come and spend of few days. read it here..

Just before the month comes to an end I'll also be able to say I'm also starting on my plan to Reduce the toxins in my body from medications, by sourcing alternative healing methods. I'll be starting with Reflexology (though I've done this before ... I need to start again).

WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY? Reflexology focuses on reliving stress and tension in the body through feet. There are reflexes in the feet that correspond to glands, organs and other parts of the body. A Reflexology Therapist can detect imbalance within the body by palpating the feet. By massaging and pressing specific landmarks they can stimulate and send energy to the unbalanced areas of the body.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS? Reflexology has short and long term benefits. Immediately after a session of reflexology relaxation and a release of stress and tension are apparent benefits. More long term benefits have been reported as reduced pain from migraines, constipation, neck and back problems, reduced PMS symptoms, increased circulation and an improved immune system.

Along with reflexology I'm going to be doing some Chakra Healing (balancing) work.

WHAT IS CHAKRA HEALING (balancing)? Chakras are vital energy centers where spiritual energy flows into the body. Chakra healing involves developing awareness, releasing blocks and increasing the flow through these spiritual energy centers.

BENEFITS OF CHAKRA HEALING (balancing): A healthier flow of energy through the aura creates greater physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.

Though I will be going to someone who is a specialist in this area, with a little research you can learn to heal/balance your own Chakras. Below are the results of an on line test I did to see where my Chakras needed some work. You can do your own test by CLICKING HERE (Chakra Test).

One of my 2012 plans is to Embrace living in the country - by sourcing local services, activities and social events. So when I went in search of a fun way to celebrate January- Hot Tea month, with some friends, I discovered a Tea Boutique not far from our home ~ hosting Art of Tea Sampling paired with Chocolate, if this wasn't enough to peek our taste buds and curious minds a Tea Leaf Reading was also part of the tea service.

The mysterious art of Tea Leaf reading most likely originated in the Middle East and the Orient; at a time when camel caravans of spices and silks carried exotic wares between China and the Mediterranean. In the third century A.D. Trade routes began to appear in order to procure horses for the Han Dynasty - extending from China to the Arabian Sea.

Tasseography or Tea Leaf Reading is a divination method that interprets patterns in tea leaves. The words tasseography , tasseomancy or tassology, originate from French tasse (cup) or Arabic tassa (cup) + Greek graph (writing), logy (study of) or mancy (divination).

What better way for three tea loving friends to celebrate January The Month of Hot Tea, than with a Tea Leaf Reading and chocolate pairing. Tea Leaf Readings were done by Candice Clancy - an Intuitive & Spiritual Medium, who is popular in Ireland, England and Scotland.

Upon arriving we were asked to choose a tea and once it was served, made our way upstairs to drink our tea and wait our turn.

Upstairs wonderful Dolfin Chocolate from Belgian, along with some (leaf free) tea, awaited our arrival.

After our leaves were interpreted we decided to stay and have some lunch in the downstairs restaurant. The food was beyond delicious, and we enjoyed it so much that we were all too busy eating and cameras were forgotten.

Before I share our tea setting we are going to unlock a little secret ...

As you can see Roses are the theme for today's tea.

Let's take a closer look as our tea steeps.....

The teapot was a wonderful find in Stowe Vermont last summer. It is manufactured by Royal Chelsea, made in England; the pattern is Golden Rose. The stamp on the bottom also has the anchor and the following handwritten 3983 A D . I love the gold detail it brings out the brilliance of the peach and red/pinkish roses. The handle has a small thumb rest,which is perfect when pouring the tea. If you look on the lid opposite the handle you will note there is a steam escape hole.

Since we are having a rose tea, white roses from the market sit in a glass flower frog.

The teacup looks like it belongs to the teapot set, with it's delicate red/pink roses and gold detail

The roses and gold detail surround not only the outside of the teacup, but inside and the saucer too! The outer side of the handle is also covered in gold.

The bottom of the teacup is equally stunning... with it's small bouquet of roses.

SURPRISE! the teacup is Royal Albert Crown China England, the pattern Old English Rose..

Our treat for tea today is the Ladurée inspired double- decker macaron

Awww memories of Paris ...

This pedestal dish holding these delights is Limoges from France.

The dish for our treats is also decorated with roses and other pretty flowers. I forgot to take a photo of the bottom of the plate ~ there is crown above a shield with a scroll in green. Across the crown JLMENAU .. in the scroll is some writing and a date (I can't make it out, it is script writing) under the crown and shield ~ Made in German Democratic Republic. I came across these plates during a visit to a local antique store.

Well our tea is steeped and ready....

Hot Chocolate ~ Visit to the country

Not having children of our own (not by choice) Mr. G and I are very blessed that we have God Children and extended family with children. Our home comes alive whenever they visit. Today (Friday) is a PA Day for Miss M. and she is spending a couple of days with us starting last night.

So after a huge spaghetti and meatball dinner (which she ate very well), a bubble bath and some colouring, it was almost time for bed. But not before we she had some hot chocolate.

She chose to use her teapot for serving the hot chocolate... 2 green tea cups served as our mugs

Of course it's not hot chocolate unless marshmallows are served, according to a 6 year old ~ you have to have marshmallows..

She really enjoys her teapot .. it reminds her of the gardens in summer. I would agree ... there is even a little bee atop the lid. It's small size is perfect for little hands.

She loves using the green tea cups, easy to hold with both hands...

WOW!!!! LOOK ITS PINK!! THE HOT CHOCOLATE IS PINK!!!

the excitement in a little ones voice is priceless!!!

After adding the "what really makes a hot chocolate" marshmallows....

It was time for the TASTE TEST!!!

Well , I would say ... pink hot chocolate was a HUGE Success!!

I Don't Need Rehab! ~ Once Upon a Time

It's been awhile (Nov. 2011) since we read the last installment of Once Upon Time; we were left wondering if the Princess's dream of going home from the hospital was going to happen... Well, the doctors had one more stop before the Princess could return to her castle...

REHAB

No, not this kind of Rehab ...

This kind, Physical Rehab.

Which included learning to transfer from bed to wheel chair; wheel chair to the "royal throne" and back to bed, all on her own. Learn to use a walker; go up and down stairs; learn to use a cane; rehab therapy on her shattered elbow and re-develop hand/eye coordination, motor skills, thinking, focusing.

But due to a similar little gadget (tub seat) the need for the above rehab almost ended...

Well, the tub seat and the nurse who left her sitting there (ALONE - unattended), [after the Princess repeatedly had been saying she was getting dizzy,] to go and get the bath towels she had forgotten. In the time the nurse took to get the towels, the Princess must have gone unconscious ... as the nurse re-entered the bathroom, the Princess was no longer sitting on the bath bench, her limp body lay over the side of the bathtub,face on the floor ... a small trace of blood ...

Thankfully the Princess's Angels were again working hard to keep her safe. She woke to the nurse's screams; unaware of what had just happened or the grave danger she had been in moments earlier.

After this second close call on her life the Princess was determined that she was much safer at home. With the help of some wonderful friends, she was able to learn to get in and out of the wheel chair; take steps with the help of cane and slowly (and painfully) go up and down a few stairs. Yes, she was almost Home... now all she had to do was learn to transfer from wheel chair to car.

After the therapist explained the technique and cautioned that this is the part most people have problems adjusting to, getting in a car backwards. This was going to be EASY!

Any woman who has ever had to get into a car this low will tell you; the only way to do it in a Ladylike way (not exposing anything) is "sit in backwards, then bring your legs in together". When the therapist uttered these same words, ~ For the first time in all this therapy stuff... she knew/was confident she was going home.

January Tea Trolley ~

Now that Christmas has been packed up ... it's time to update the Tea Trolley in my writing area. Since the snow is finally making it's arrival (though unusually late ... I certainly was not complaining) and covering everything white, I have kept things with a little winter feel. So won't you come along and enjoy a cup of tea with me.

This is the Winter Tea Trolley setting... Along with switching out the teapot and teacup, I have added a dress form to remind me to stay true to my healthy eating plan for 2012. I was fortunate to acquire this beauty from Marie's Maison, if you have not visited her blog and Etsy boutique, you are missing out on some wonderful inspiring photos and items for purchase.

You'll also note there is a picture of a Paris apartment ... looking out the window to the Eiffel Tower; bringing back sweet memories of my visits to the city of lights (and warm weather).

Mr. Snowman teapot is happy to be inside, it's even a bit too cold for him. His lid is an array of holly, with a sweet cardinal watching over the activities of tea.

The teacup set I have chosen to use for the January Tea Trolley setting is by Staffordshire. The bottom of the cup and saucer, have a green stamping - crown above the Staffordshire name; fine bone china below the name followed by England and then EST-1875. The bottom of the cup also has the numbers 1471/ (I think 25) .. there are 2 small gold lines on the edge of both cup and saucer bottom at rim.

The saucer is equally beautiful with a bouquet of pink roses and the rim in a soft robin's egg blue with gilded gold details. Looks perfect with the dress forms robin blue egg lace.

The teacup has a pedestal base which is also gilded, and a gilded petite handle.

Here is a closer look at the beautiful Paris scene window print. Yes, the artist is one of BlogLand's very own, Fifi Flowers ... you have not heard of her? , your are definitely missing out on some wonderful talent and wonderful prints. Fifi also does custom work and offers original paintings. To me this would be the perfect writing setting!!! A girl can dream...

Life Transitions ~ The Common Thread

The originating reason for our life transitioning will vary from person to person, but the common thread is that along the journey of transition an overwhelming feeling of uncertainty ~~can~~ will send us on a downward spiral when it comes to taking care of ourselves.

Yet, this is possibly the most important time to make sure we are taking care of ourselves. When our body is functioning properly we feel better and are able to deal with difficult challenges more effectively.

Eat Healthy

It's about a lifestyle of eating. Make sure that you are getting the nutrients your body needs to properly fuel it. It is easy during transitions in life to turn to quick and fast processed foods, buckets of ice-cream, boxes of chocolate and (fill in the blank , with your go to ~~weapon~~ food of choice) to fill the void we are feeling.

Get Adequate Sleep

This means 6-9hours of uninterrupted deep sleep.

Stay Physically Active

Even a walk to the end of the drive-way a few times a day, will get your energy flowing and your body moving.

Personal Hygiene

Few will admit it, but EVERYONE has experienced times when staying buried in bed for a few days at a time has seemed much more manageable, than venturing out and facing the stressful challenges.

Take Time to Relax

Society has conditioned us to think "time is money" and thus relaxing is a waste of both; making us feel guilty if we take time to relax. In truth, relaxing activities provide a restful break and help us to enjoy life. Giving us rejuvenated strength and clarity to deal with stressful situations.

Nurture Your Inner Self

Find activities that bring clarity of purpose and sense of connection,such as meditation, spiritual/religious practices, or spending time in nature. It's amazing what literally hugging a tree can do for you.

Can we Eat Outside YET???

One of the draws of living in a part of the world where all forms of outside dinning, unless you are prepared to eat while wearing parkas sitting on stools made of ice/snow and chance having your lips or tongue stick to drinking cups; you are left with dreaming of the warm days ahead and look for inspiring settings, you may be able to recreate, once the bitter cold is long gone.

Here are some photos i hope will get your creative juices flowing and I hope will also add a little warmth to your day.

This setting reminded me of a setting in Italy ... Tuscany perhaps??

This one with a few modifications, could be transformed into a setting reminiscent of the tents that may have been set up for Marie Antoinette, on stops along her travels.

The blues and whites with the pop of yellow ..have me drifting to a setting in the South of France .. Provence

Whimiscal and a great inspiration for a child's outside birthday celebration...

Now this had me dreaming of enjoying a wonderful afternoon in the garden sipping champagne, wouldn't it be divine to have a greenhouse to laze away the hot summer days.. butterflies and birds flying by to say what a blessing...

This year we decided to host a boxing day Pancake Brunch ... of course with it being winter , everyone was inside. When I came across these photos .. I thought Hmmm OutDoor Pancake Brunch!!

Marie Antoinette Travel Chest ~ Included Tea

My how travel mode has changed...

Travelling in the time of Marie Antoinette, often required stopping along the way to rest and recover from the bumpy movement of the horse drawn carriage.

The views must have been spectacular...

But definitely tiring...
Not to mention all that needed to be packed. Often a trip that may take a couple of hours today, would have taken days, weeks even months (sometimes years) back then. Imagine each time you decided to take a trip, needing to have a travelling chest like this to hold all your travelling "necessities".

On my 2010 trip to Paris with the Mr. we spent half a day at Versailles (not enough time, to see all the beauty it has to offer).. But Mon Amis do not worry, we were there with enough time for me to discover the boutique and return home with this:

It resides on my night stand for those times that just a petite cup of tea is required (especially just before going to bed, while enjoying a good book.) I think I may need to add some art work to that wall (amazing what you notice when you see an area in photos).

Yes, this Marie Antoinette inspired phone really works

and I do use it.

I know back to the teacup! The "M A" monogram is surrounded by a garland of small flowers and roses. Produced by Manufacture de la Reine, located on Rue Thiroux in Paris.

Notice how the teacup sits right in the saucer, perfect for holding that evening tea biscuit - or spillage from moving about while sitting in bed trying to read.

The saucer is equally spectacular, with the "M A" monogram and garland of small roses and flowers.

Life's Lessons ~ Under The Tuscan Sun

Under The Tuscan Sun starring Diane Lane, is one of my favourite movies! Not only for the fabulous Tuscan setting, but also for the subtle lessons it teaches us about surviving Life Transitions. Sure we may not have the budget to jump on a plane and escape to Italy or have friends with a trip ticket they aren't able to use. The movie follows Lane's character as she creates her life after an unexpected divorce.

Though Life Transition and it's challenges are faced not only by people going through a divorce, it applies to anyone who finds the person they are is no longer familiar or the life they are living no longer fits.

If you have never seen Under The Tuscan Sun, I encourage you to add it to your must see list.

With a fresh new year upon us waiting to write yet another chapter in our life! is the perfect time to to start taking steps towards making that life transition you have been dreaming of, a reality.

The first step towards your new life, is deciding that you are going to leave behind the past, no matter how good or bad it may be/have been. It no longer fits and you know no amount of alterations is going to make it fit you or you to fit it, again.

" What may appear to be the end is a wonderful new beginning waiting to start"

Yes....

the unknown can be scary.

And you may stumble along the way.

But knowing on the highway of creating your new life, you will come to the exit you have been seeking.....

Good-bye Ms. Christmas Teapot

Welcome to the first Afternoon Tea of 2012 ... I'm so happy that you have clicked over for a visit.

During the busy time of the holidays, I combined my ATTEATUDE and Chocolate tea posts here at HHL. It was just going to be for the holiday season as I was getting very overwhelmed with keeping up with posting; But not only did I realize it was much easier writing/posting on one blog; Readers of HHL emailed to say they were really enjoying these posts, so for the next few months, I will continue to incorporate the two blogs here at HHL.

So...here we go,....

Now that all the holiday rushing around and entertaining, has come to a halt, it's time to start putting away the Christmas decor. Including this lovely Christmas teapot. So, while lounging the day away New Year's Day, Mr. G. and I used our Christmas teapot for the final time, until Christmas returns, 12 months from now.

Things sweet Christmas mugs will also be saying till next Christmas too!, after this tea.The sturdy mugs are by 222 Fifth and the pattern is Paisley Ornaments. The colours are much more vibrant than the photo shows.

To accompany our tea we indulged in some homemade white chocolate chip cookies, Angel P's nieces and nephew baked for us.

This is a better photo, you can see the white chocolate chunks! We were each given our own little bag, with accompanying gift tag.

I love this teapot, it really reflects the season with the snow covered pine-cones, and it's red, green, and white colour. The ceramic teapot is made in China by CR -Christmas Collection and is called "Old Saint Nick"

Of course the Red Cardinal, is a reminder that the garden and it's feathery friends are staying warm and out of sight.

The handle of the teapot is finished off with a grande bow!

Mr. G loves these Christmas mugs for their generous handle.

And this little guy is saying ... Happy New Year Everyone!!!

Back to Basics ~ handwritten letters

Whenever I receive a letter, cards or postcards from people my day seems to brighten just a little more. I am able to hold something in my hand that someone took the time to write to me; not cut and paste after typing it on a keyboard and emailing or texting to others. I know that the person actually thought about me as they personalized a little note, placed the card in an envelope and took it to the post office ~ instead of just being part of an email group receiving a generic card via email or text.

Yes, technology enables us to send communication at lightening speeds, while a mailed envelope can take a week or more to arrive, depending where you live. But there is something technology can not give...you will never see the beautiful penmanship which only a handwritten letter can show, or the struggle which only through handwriting you can feel by seeing the scribbled words on paper, of an elderly or ill loved one {who despite the difficulty - cared enough to out pen to paper just for YOU}. From a child, handwritten letters and notes will let you feel the excitement they are experiencing by the way their writing becomes large in certain places.

To me there is just something warm about a letter, its really like receiving a hug.

How many times have you heard of someone regretting an email or text they sent in the heat of the moment.
Well, if they had handwritten it, they would certainly have calmed down by the time they wrote it; placed it in an envelope; addressed it and mailed it. Perhaps allowing them the time needed to decide NOT to send, what they just wrote.

One of the greatest things about writing a letter the old fashion way...

No internet connection is required!

And you can write it anywhere!!!

When was the last time you wrote a letter?

Before you know it ...a new year will be here with 12 months, 52 weeks or 365 days of new opportunities, beginnings and a blank canvas to waiting to write this chapter in your life.

Thank you to all the readers and followers of this blog who made 2011 an amazing year in BlogLand. I hope that my writing and posts will continue to inspire, motivate, help you as you face transition in your own life or have a loved one who is facing life detours, and make you laugh at times.

In 2012 I Plan to ...

~ Help Others - by volunteering time with local organizations helping people to move forward in life

~ Make a difference in the life of a child- by looking into alternative parenting opportunities

~ Live the second life I've been gifted- by trying to not look at the life that has ended for me but instead to the life that waits to be written/created

~ Get back in shape- by eating healthy EVERYDAY and continue with a fitness program

~ Reduce the amount of toxins (and weight) that medication adds to my body - by looking at alternative methods as and adjunct to conventional medicine for all my pains and aches

~ Get back in the kitchen baking- by accepting help around the oven/stove

( I tend to forget when something is on stove/oven)

~ Embrace living in the country - by sourcing local services, activities and social events

and getting a pair of these ...

Birthday Morning Tea Surprise

Having spent a wonderful day celebrating an early Birthday and Christmas with my family, driving home 4 hours (well Mr. G , drove) waking up the morning of my birthday was very tough!

Imagine my surprise when I finally made my way downstairs to discover this breakfast setting laid out for me.

Complete with a piece of birthday cake (from yesterday's celebrations), The Mr. felt I could use some energizing.

Using the new teacup from Longquan Celadon Kiln, a gift from my brother and his wife...

What a grand handle! Perfect for holding ...

In case I got some energy and chose to linger at the breakfast table a little, Mr. G. set out some of the tea books I was gifted from my Sister and SIL. I can't wait to curl up with these, over the cold winter months that will be coming.

The teacup comes with its own infuser! Removing the lid I discover, steeping for my birthday tea is Harney & Sons ~ Paris blend, of black teas, natural vanilla,fruit and citrus flavours, my sister knows how to select a tea that will send my taste buds in happy land.

This particular design is known as Okura Ume Blossom.

The History of the Ume Blossom on the box reads as follows:

The Ume blossom is the first flower to blossom in winter. When there is snow on the ground, the ume flowers bloom triumphantly, symbolizing HOPE for the return of spring. Ume trees can live for over 100 years, and their old rugged trunks (resembling dragons) contrast with the delicate young blossoms.

The Longquan Celadon Kiln, one of five famous Imperial Kilns of China, introduced this type of porcelain to Europe during the Ming Dynasty (1368 A.D. - 1644 A.D.). The kiln was capable of firing at ahigher temperature (2500 degrees C) to create a finer, more luminescent glaze than previously available.

Just in case ... The chocolate shoe which accompanied the gorgeous Louis Vuitton cake my sister had custom ordered for me (You can read and see photos of cake HERE), was on my must eat for breakfast list... the Mr. kindly added it to the setting!!!

Family Christmas Lunch and My Birthday

It was an exciting time this week-end! HHL Sister, hosted an early Christmas and Birthday (moi's) celebration at her home.

I couldn't believe how much little Matthew had changed, since his Baptism, 2 weeks ago!!

HHL Sister, is a fabulous hostess and the table was beautifully set in a white and silver colour theme with a red Christmas table cloth. It looked absolutely elegant!

She definitely inherited our Father's great cooking skills!!We feasted on a honey glazed ham; turkey; veggies; HHL-SIL made a fabulous corn pudding ( Mr. G. is hoping she will share the recipe); garlic mashed potatoes and the best spinach and pear salad ever!! and if all this amazing food was not enough....

There was one more surprise HHL Sister had in-store for the afternoon...

I think my expression in this photo speaks volumes!! Even Nephew is excited by what is being displayed before him!!!

Dessert was not only my Birthday Cake, my sister had a custom Louis Vuitton birthday cake made for Moi!!

Complete with coordinating chocolate shoe ....

The inside was a melody of vanilla cake, cream and strawberry cream. The fondant was the nicest and softest fondant I have ever had the pleasure of tasting!!

HHL Brother-in-law, introduced me to the perfect complement "beverage" to accompany this heavenly cake masterpiece!

If you have not tried this yet! I say ~~run~~ get to the nearest LCBO and pick yourself up a bottle. Definitely my new favourite. Everyone said it also smelled amazing, of course my smelling sense was not in operable mode; but the smoothness and taste I can say was amazing!

If you were wondering what was distracting HHL Nephew (Matthew) ...He was exploring his option as Baby Hairdresser to Auntie M.

After dinner and cake, we embarked on opening all the wonderful and thoughtful gifts. And for ME our afternoon together as a family celebrating was a gift, I will forever treasure!

I would like to thank my Sister for hosting a fabulous afternoon! My Mother for bringing me into the world! My Brother and his wife for bringing into the world the best blessing our family could ever have ... MATTHEW!! Of course BIL for introducing me to my newest favourite beverage and to Mr. G. for driving the 4 hours (each way), so we could share this special time with my family!

Not realizing a new Self & Life , is not something you can just order up...

You have to not only want it you have to

CREATE IT!

I was gifted a very similar journal with the same message on the cover, earlier this year. It's been sitting in my night stand drawer for months, untouched. Today, I've decided that on Monday (December 19th) I'm going to give myself a very special Birthday gift of dedicating 2012 to the year I create the New Me, I have been waiting to discover. To do this I must find the strength to leave behind the past Me that I have been holding unto (while trying to build a new me and life), as it continues to no longer be working in the

present Life I have.

Sometimes when we have been forced off our Heels,

we must embrace the change and go barefoot...

We must see ourselves as we want to be not as we are...

and sometimes Our Shoes

Must Change ...

and though we may not want to try on the new ones...

Until we do, we will never know the power they may hold...

Slowly they will start to raise you..

Until You are back on your toes...

A Nutcracker Christmas ~ and ~ Christmas GIVE AWAY

We have been working hard at the HHL country home, getting ready for Christmas and the celebrations of the season. This year is the first Christmas in 5 years that I am looking forward to. With my love of ballet and memories of going to see the Nutcracker Ballet on my birthday... The Nutcracker theme was perfect for our home.

Trying to bring some tradition back into the celebration of Christmas, we choose to not add the Angel to the top of tree during Advent. Instead on Christmas eve we will set the Angel in place at the top of the tree and light it's candles.
