Morning Skin Care Routine

My morning skin care routine begins with splashing my face with cool to tepid water and gently dabbing it dry with a face cloth. Lets face it ladies if you have cleansed (as you should) before going to bed - your face is not dirty, so no need to go through the cleansing process again. As Shopper's beauty consultant Gina and other skin care experts have told me over the years - cleansing in the morning strips all the goodness from your night time skin care.

Cooking in Heels:Stuffed Calamari

This is one of my favourite childhood dishes. And I vary the rice stuffing per what I have on hand.

 On this occasion I used:
1-large red pepper, 2 shallots, 1 large portobello mushroom cap, 1 cup frozen peas, 2 cups cooked rice (basmati) or your rice of choice.

5 fresh or previously frozen squid tubes (thawed)

Additional ingredients:
Olive oil, thyme, ground pepper, sea salt, basil, oregano,
1/2 jar tomato sauce  (I used homemade sauce)
basil for garnish

Cut portbello mushroom cap and red pepper into cubes; chop shallots;
heat olive oil over medium heat;
add vegetables to skillet, stir to coat with olive oil and add spices.

Cook stirring frequently, over medium heat, until vegetables are softened

add rice and peas to skillet and stir frequently until warmed up

remove skillet from stove - and set aside.

Cover the bottom of baking dish with tomato sauce.
Use tooth pick to seal one end of squid and using a tea spoon, scoop mixture into squid.
be sure to fill loosely as squid tubes will shrink.
Layer squid in single layer in baking dish and top with additional tomato sauce.

NOTE: Reserve extra rice for side serving. Keep warm - can be lightly reheated in skillet on low or place in oven covered with foil when spooning squid with tomato sauce.

 Bake in pre-heated 350 °F oven for 40-50 minutes.
Spoon sauce over squid half way through baking.
Garnish with fresh basil before serving.

Serves 2 -
serve with baguette and glass of bubbly

Enjoy lovelies ...

Let's Eat Toronto: Cluny Bistro & Boulangerie

Photo taken during my first visit in late summer 2015 - where the crowd enjoyed the outdoor patio.
As you walk through the doors you become instantly aware that you are stepping into something extraordinary. To the left is a boulangerie that rivals many of the ones I have visited in Paris; straight ahead is the dinning room, which instantly ignites memories of my visits to Ladurée on the Champs-Elysées and Angelina on Rivoli; and to the right is the bar, both elegant and inviting. For this visit Mr. G. and I enjoyed a wonderful weekend late lunch early dinner in the bar area.

 Framed drop ceiling ..
the decor is breath taking!

They offer a great selection of oysters ... pick your favourite or discover a new one

I am not much of a French onion soup gal ... but I did try Mr,.G's and it was impressive.
Mr. G. is a true connoisseur and he was still raving about how amazing it was the next day.

Mr. G. went for the Steak and Frites
the beef is raised naturally, hormone & antibiotic free in Grey County

Moi .. 3 cheese omelet topped with truffles ..
YUM! does not begin to describe how pleased I was with my choice!

Passion Fruit Soufflé - from summer visit
We got our dessert to go from the boulangerie  - and forgot to take photos before devouring the mouth watering works of art, so I'm including a photo of the Passion Fruit Soufflé from summer visit, which I highly recommend you try. It is as scrumptious as it looks

Cheers ...

Mr. G. is already planning reservations for the dinning room ...
I think Cluny's is going to be on the list of our favourite places to dine.

Cluny Bistro & Boulangerie is located in the Distillery District - visit their website here

Temperatures are Warming up in Toronto

It was a gorgeous day to be out and about in Toronto this past weekend. With temperatures reaching 17 degrees Celsius - Mr. G. and I decided it was a "lets get out kinda of day  - with no destination in mind. We hopped on the subway and found ourselves down at Union Station ... while the temperatures were a little on the chilly side down by the lake, I was prepared with scarf and vest.

As we returned home it was still quite pleasant and the scarf was all I needed.

When out and about in the city I find a shoulder bag that I can wear cross body, over my shoulder or carry by handle - a great option for carrying an extra sweater (or on this day vest), camera, or when I'm out writing - a mini lap top etc.

Jeans - Suko
Sweat shirt - Gap NYC logo crew pull over
Vest - Zara Women (similar)
Scarf - from a  summer market
Sneakers - Converse Chuck Taylor
Accessories: sunglasses & watch - Gucci (similar); ring -  (Atlas)Tiff any; bracelet - (Essence Collection) Pandora; cross body bag - Swiss Army
